Nasi Hujan Panas & Ayam Masak Merah: A Vibrant Malaysian Duo

My sous cooked a super delicious meal the other day. She made a dish called 'Nasi Hujan Panas', which sort of translates to "rain and sunshine rice," a festive Malaysian dish known for its colorful appearance and fragrant aroma.

Cooked with spices like cinnamon, star anise, and cardamom, the rice is dyed in vibrant hues of yellow, green, and red, symbolizing celebration and joy.

Often reserved for special occasions like weddings, it pairs beautifully with Ayam Masak Merah.

Ayam Masak Merah — a spicy tomato-braised chicken. Tender chicken pieces marinated, fried, and then simmered in a rich, mildly spicy tomato and chili sauce. The sweetness of the tomato blends perfectly with aromatic spices like cloves and cinnamon, which is such a delicious flavor combination.

It wasn't anyone's wedding, so it was such a treat to have this for our staff meal.
