So, some time ago, when I visited the Narabe cafe for coffee, I glanced at the main course menu and found one that piqued my interest: Singgang Grilled Chicken. This was completely new to me. It stated that the grilled chicken should be accompanied by rice with torch ginger seasoning. So, without hesitation, I ordered an Americano and a portion of the grilled chicken.
Usually, when I order a dish with the word torch ginger in it, there's a lot of indistinctness on my tongue. That means they use very little torch ginger. Sometimes, I can only smell the aroma. So, I was very curious about what this dish from Narabe's kitchen would be like.
It actually took a while for my order to arrive, so I took a break.
About fifteen minutes later, my order arrived. And it turned out to be a pretty big portion. You know what was on my plate: grilled singgang chicken, torch ginger rice that looked so spiced, and a creamy sauce that turned out to have some kind of spinach in it. Wow... it looked absolutely delicious. The aroma of torch ginger really pleased my senses.
After I tasted the torch ginger rice, it was exactly what I was looking for! All the spices were abundant, but it didn't make the rice taste strange. In fact, it was very familiar to my tongue and memory. It was like I'd gone back to when I was younger.
I really liked it. I was a bit surprised because the torch ginger rice still tasted so good. But this time I had to try the grilled singgang chicken. And when I did some research, it turned out this is a Minangkabau specialty. Do you know what grilled chicken tastes like? I was even more surprised because it was so delicious. The grilled chicken tasted as if it had been smoked beforehand. So, when it was grilled again, the smoky flavor was very strong. Not to mention the spices, which also contained coconut milk. It was very savory, smoky, and umami.
And the creamed spinach was equally delicious. I was surprised that none of the components in my order were a failure. Everything was delicious. The coffee was also good, and the atmosphere was pleasant. So, this was truly the perfect package for tonight. And the price was also standard, not too expensive.
