Fruit Fest

Life can be pretty tough...

Clare and I had to endure apple-bramble crumble with custard for breakfast, today.

😒

As if we don't have enough sweet stuff to eat, already.

It was hard work getting through this meal...

FYI: I am the one making the crumble in this household, even though Clare is a better cook.

All kidding aside, the 'brumble' was delicious and it wasn't a punishment at all to eat it two days in a row.

In fact, with the added bit of salt, slightly sour apples, freshly picked brambles, biological honey from a beekeeping friend and the juice of one lemon, it seemed to perfectly balance the salty, the sweet, the sour and the bitterness.

As we experienced a year ago, shortly after we acquired our current plot of land, it might very well be the driest time of the year but, at the same time, August is also a month with an abundance of ripening fruit.

There are more figs and brambles than we can eat or even process.

So we are looking up recipes,

using 'actual' books...

We are climbing trees...

We dry figs, using a new method a friend suggested...

and we are, of course, eating a bunch of figs throughout the day.

I guess it's a good thing that we like natural food - haha! And believe me, it tastes so much better when you've grown it 'yourself' and are finally reaping the rewards of the work you have put in, in the last couple of seasons.

The victory ( pronounce as 'figtree' ) is ours! 💪

@clareartista as the queen of the hill, looking proud after having put the figs out for sunbathing.

and here's the figs enjoying the view...

Sending love from.Molise, Italia! 🍇🫒🍒

Apple-bramble crumble and custard two days on the trot? Heavens above, I do feel your pain!:)

i am sure you can relate.

I feel for you. Not.

Woohooo - it is really rewarding, indeed to be enjoying so many delicious tastes from our gardens today - and to see soooo many more fruiting bodies pop up around us: I just found new sorrel leaves after the rains, on the way up to the tent!

Delicious. Love me a foraged feed. I love a non trad crumble as well. I can't stand how much sugar goes into them. Salt and honey - yes. Love that photo of Claire!

I'm reminded of my mum drying keropok outside before frying it XD I'll have to see if you wrote about how you were doing it before.

Congratulations

The dish looks so delicious, why do you call it tiring to eat it, be thankful that we still have food to eat

🤭

Ingrate! That's you told!:)

I was joking. Just my weird sense of humour.

🤣😁
