An Afternoon Bonding with My Mother: Eating Buko by the Beach

in ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITY2 days ago (edited)

Happy Wednesday Hivers!

Buko is one of my favorite foods. I really can’t help myself whenever there’s buko. There are foods that, even if they’re right in front of me, I can choose not to eat, but when it comes to buko, I just can’t ignore it. I can’t simply look at it without eating it. That’s how much I love buko.

We have a coconut tree right in front of our house here in Leyte. Did you know that in the Philippines, whenever you’re at the beach, you can always see coconut trees lined up neatly along the shore? That’s why it’s easy for us to enjoy buko whenever we crave it. The only ones who have it harder are those living in the city, they have to buy it, and it can be quite expensive.

One afternoon, my mother checked our coconut tree and noticed that it already had a buko. She asked our neighbor if he could take it, and since most Filipinos are friendly and helpful, the neighbor immediately said yes.

I’ve already mentioned that my mother is 70 years old now, so she’s quite elderly. I told her that I would be the one to open the buko, but she didn’t agree because she didn’t trust me to do it. I didn’t argue with her anymore, I get tired of arguing, so I just let her go ahead and open the buko herself.

The meat was just right, not too hard and not too soft either. One of the things I really love about freshly picked buko is how sweet its juice is.

Did you know that our family’s favorite place to hang out in the afternoon is the beach? Since my younger sibling put up a hammock there, it has become an even nicer spot to relax. Who wouldn’t want to spend time there? Just look at the view, it’s so beautiful, and the air is cool and refreshing.

After my mother finished opening the buko, we went to the beach and spent time there, chatting while eating the meat. Life in the province is very simple, but I appreciate it more. There’s less stress, and your eyes feel full just taking in the beauty of the view.

I love listening to different life stories and I am always captivated with the beauty of nature so travel is my escape when life turns into blue. But hey, how could I forget my photography hobby? It is one of the best, so follow me as I will be featuring my experiences of the stuff that I am passionate with.

I live near the Caribbean coast and I know what you mean; I'm a coconut fan too. You got some great shots.

Aside from being healthy, coconut is also delicious, which is why many people love it.

Oh, thank you so much for appreciating some of the photos. I’m still developing my photography skills, but I really do love taking photos.
