Hace unos días, les había contado que tuve la oportunidad de ser chef jurado en el examen final de estudiantes de pastelería en diferentes niveles. He estado en diferentes eventos de este tipo y una de las cosas que más me gusta es ver la creatividad que tienen los futuros profesionales de pastelería. Sea que yo vaya como jurado, fotógrafo o como parte de equipo de organización, disfrutó mucho la dedicación que tiene cada persona para que sus pasteles queden hermosos.
A few days ago, I had share with you that I had the opportunity to be a jury chef in the final exam for pastry students at different levels. I have been in different events of this kind and one of the things I like the most is to see the creativity that future pastry professionals have. Whether I go as a judge, photographer or as part of the organizing team, I really enjoyed the dedication that each person has to make their cakes look beautiful.
Algunos amigos me dicen que me encanta ir porque disfruto comer dulces y que solo voy por eso. Pero la verdad es que sí, disfruto comer dulces, pero todo esto va más allá y la actividad se torna en un ambiente donde convergen personas que amamos la pastelería y que comparten consejos para crecer, como si se tratase de una actividad para hacer networking. Muchos dicen que en estas actividades, se encuentran a chef engreídos y si puede ser cierto, pero mis experiencias han sido todo lo contrario.
Some friends tell me that I love to go because I enjoy eating sweets and that's the only reason I go. But the truth is that yes, I enjoy eating sweets, but all this goes beyond that and the activity becomes an environment where people who love pastry converge and share tips to grow, as if it were a networking activity. Many people say that in these activities, you find smug chefs and yes it may be true, but my experiences have been quite the opposite.
Volviendo al tema de la creatividad, el mundo de la pastelería es tan grande, que conocer y probar todo, puede ser una tarea que tome tanto tiempo que quizás la vida no alcance. Entonces, el poder estar en estos espacios dulces, permite a uno observar combinación de colores, sabores, técnicas y demás, siendo esto de ayuda para tener ideas para crear nuevas preparaciones. Yo honestamente les digo que nunca había sido tan creativo hasta que comencé a estudiar pastelería y saciar esas ansias de querer probar y combinar sabores y texturas.
Returning to the subject of creativity, the world of pastry is so big that knowing and tasting everything can be a task that takes so much time that perhaps life is not enough. Then, being in these sweet spaces, allows one to observe combinations of colors, flavors, techniques and so on, being this helpful to have ideas to create new preparations. I honestly tell you that I had never been so creative until I began to study pastry and quench those cravings of wanting to try and combine flavors and textures.
Me encanta cómo se ve cada stand. Puede que pienses que todo eso lo crea un diseñador, pero por experiencias previas, todo es creatividad de cada estudiante. La persona que se encarga de la decoración, recibe las ideas de cada estudiante y con eso el decorador va estructurando el stand. La idea es que todo haga juego y combine con los pasteles y postres, que son los verdaderos protagonistas, por eso la creatividad viene de parte de los estudiantes y eso los prepara para más adelante organizar mesas de dulces con temáticas.
I love how each booth looks. You might think that all of that is created by a designer, but from previous experience, it's all the creativity of each student. The person in charge of the decoration receives the ideas from each student and with that the decorator structures the stand. The idea is that everything matches and combines with the cakes and desserts, which are the real protagonists, so the creativity comes from the students and that prepares them to later organize themed candy tables.
No todo queda perfecto tampoco, pero para mi ver pasteles con errores técnicos, me hace pensar en las cosas que se pueden hacer para mejorar y si se da la oportunidad, corregir y dar los consejos necesarios, siendo siempre humilde, porque para mí la humildad es necesaria para llegar siempre lejos en la vida. Tampoco les voy a mentir, muchos se alejan de esas preparaciones no tan bonitas, pero yo hago lo contrario: me acerco y converso con las personas y les ayudo si es posible a drenar todo ese estrés que de alguna u otra forma se refleja en las preparaciones que se hacen.
Not everything is perfect either, but for me seeing cakes with technical errors, makes me think about the things that can be done to improve and if given the opportunity, correct and give the necessary advice, always being humble, because for me humility is necessary to always go far in life. I'm not going to lie to you either, many people stay away from those not so nice preparations, but I do the opposite: I approach and talk to people and help them if possible to drain all that stress that in some way or another is reflected in the preparations that are made.
Les había quedado pendiente de compartir todas estas fotos de lo que fue el evento, pero sé que voy a un ritmo de publicación lento. De verdad que el mundo de la pastelería y la cocina en general, es un mundo de mucha creatividad y ciencia. Yo disfruto de cocinar desde 4 perspectivas, la primera desde que cocino, con los sonidos, aromas y colores que van surgiendo. La segunda es cuando me como todo lo que preparo, la tercera es cuando los platos se ven bien presentados y, por último, cuándo comparto de mis preparaciones con los demás y sonríen por haber disfrutado de una buena comida.
I had been waiting to share all these photos of the event, but I know I'm going at a slow pace of publication. Truly, the world of pastry and cooking in general, is a world of much creativity and science. I enjoy cooking from 4 perspectives, the first is when I cook, with the sounds, aromas and colors that emerge. The second is when I eat everything I prepare, the third is when the dishes are well presented and, finally, when I share my preparations with others and they smile for having enjoyed a good meal.
Esta última foto es con una amiga que tenia sin ver más de un año, pero que siempre ha estado presente en ka distancia en los momentos buenos y no tan buenos. Es bonito poder reencontrarse con personas que quieres y más en espacios de cosas que amamos. No quería cerrar este post sin agregar esta foto con mi querida amiga Lilian, que sin ella saberlo, ha sido un apoyo para sobrellevar la ausencia de mi madre durante este camino dulce que he recorrido en su honor. This last photo is with a friend that I had not seen for more than a year, but who has always been present in the distance in the good and not so good moments. It is nice to be able to meet again with people you love and more in spaces of things we love.
