Old But Gold! An Old Coffee Shop In The Heart Of A Busy City

The classic atmosphere of an old coffee shop led me to many reflections. Of course, this isn't just about coffee, but about enjoying the simplicity that has existed since ancient times, helping us understand the meaning of pleasure throughout time.

I'm discussing Yogyakarta this time. Again and again. Because Yogyakarta is the closest tourist city to my rented house. It's about an hour by train.

On weekends, my husband and I often walk around this tourist city. Usually, it's not far from the Malioboro area, famous for its culinary, shopping, and cultural performances.

One weekend morning, I was craving a classic coffee. I looked for a small coffee shop. But my search led me to a small but very popular coffee shop. It was quite busy.

Luckily, when I arrived, there was an empty seat for my husband and me. "Djoen Bakery, Coffee & Resto".

It's not a large place with modern decor. But this place is a small shop that's been left as is since its inception, despite the increasing number of customers. This creates an authentic feel that remains unchanged.

The tables and chairs resemble furniture found in homes of the past. We can also see cabinets and many display items that strongly harken back to the past.

This coffee shop has long been famous for its bread. That's why they have so many delicious, legendary varieties that are perfect for a cup of coffee.

Well, I ordered a cup of ethnic coffee. It's hot, brewed coffee served with milk and selected spices.

Oooooh, this is so warming! Served in a distinctive ceramic cup, it transported me to a simple yet delicious moment. I didn't chat with my husband. We let ourselves be. With coffee. Let's not disturb our tongues as they sip the deliciousness of this simple coffee.

To complement my coffee, I ordered a slice of cake. Banana cheesecake. An old-style one.

Very soft but not too oily. I think this cake would also make a great gift for a friend.

Meanwhile, the back of the shop was also bustling with customers. There were red stairs that were no longer allowed to be climbed. They were only used for photo props.

I saw many older customers behind the shop. I guess they were enjoying their nostalgic moments from time to time. :)

I returned to the front area. I could see Malioboro Street starting to fill with tourists. But I remained calm.

If you visit Indonesia, you should definitely stop by this city. With its wide selection of coffees, you'll have a great time creating memories here. :)

So happy to hear from you after some time! I'm glad you're doing well and enjoying visiting places that make you feel good. Yes, the place doesn't look very modern, but I know from personal experience that these picturesque places are usually very pleasant, both in terms of service and the products they offer. Besides, taking a little coffee break in the middle of a noisy city is always a good idea. I loved your review; it's made me want to visit it myself. Happy start to the week!...

Oh, the place looks very cozy! One of those places that stays in your memory. The piece of cake also looks fluffy, and I imagine the coffee was great. Thank you for sharing this place with us. Best regards.

I like this coffee shop. Not fancy at all. I like the worn look. Those other places you visit sometimes, with designs miraculously forming on top of the coffee...not for me. I would feel right at home here :)

I'll never go to Indonesia. I had an invitation once to do a book opening in Malaysia, but couldn't make that trip either. I'll have to travel to Indonesia in your blogs 🌷

Great review. I've heard about this coffee shop before, but never went. I definitely will after reading this.

Whoa, seems like that coffee has a lot of stories to tell already, its old but it looks more warm and comfortable. Its like the kind of place where you'll really feel nostalgia. And they also have a lot of bread ha, their coffee looks nice too ✨🌼

Oh wow...that place looks great ! I am local Jogjanese but had spend last few years working in Jakarta. Haven't discovered this place yet and surely need to do a visit. Thank you for sharing !

Hey Anggrek! There are so many notable things here, from the crockery to some of the artistic features. It's amazing and a great city find.
It shows you just how impactful great presentation is. :)))

It's lovely to see you, as always!

Yeah, there were some good posts, heh-13.jpg

It´s always nice to explore coffee shops and try their special menus. Thank you for sharing this.

It seems you found a really nice place: the coffee looks so good and the banana cheesecake delicious. I just wonder why they wrapped the cake into a plastic foil? I think if possible one should avoid unnecessary plastic waste, but maybe there was a reason for that?
