Today, I revisited the Food Place food court, located at Pavilion Mall. The food court is located beside the Oriental Kopi Restaurant.
This time I ordered stewed pork leg on rice from the Siam Taste stall, which cost RM21.90 per plate.
The dish is a classic Thai comfort dish known for its tender, slow-braised pork leg served over fragrant white rice. It comes with a hard-boiled egg, lightly pickled vegetables, and a clear herbal soup on the side. It’s garnished with crispy fried garlic for added texture and aroma.
Khao Kha Moo has Chinese roots, particularly from Teochew and Hokkien immigrants who brought the braising technique to Thailand. It evolved by adapting to local Thai tastes — sweeter, more aromatic with star anise, cinnamon, and garlic. It’s now a common street food found across Thailand, particularly famous in night markets and food courts. One of the most well-known versions was made famous by a former monk nicknamed "Chef Hawker" at Bangkok’s Ratchawat Market. The dish is beloved for being both affordable and filling — offering comfort in every bite.
