Hello, my lovely friends!
Today, we're back again with more behind-the-scenes stories from the kitchen! As a vendor, my daily life wouldn't be fun without some challenging situations. And today's exciting story unfolds at Auntie Daeng's Shop at Pantip Market, our usual favorite delicious spot!
Cooking for sale is like seasoning life itself. Some days are sweet and gentle, simple, with a cool breeze blowing. Other days are spicy and make you sweat. And today seems to be a day with every flavor imaginable.
The story begins on what seemed like a bright morning. My sister and I woke up early to set up our stall, preparing to scoop our delicious Southern Thai curry into pots. The aroma of the spices filled the entire market. Everything seemed to be going smoothly, and we sold leisurely for about 2-3 hours, with customers continuously coming to enjoy the delicious food.
But then, the sky, which had been clear, suddenly turned a dark gray within minutes. A strong gust of wind swept in, and a heavy downpour began to pour down without warning.
That split second was chaos!
My sister and I had to channel our inner fighters, frantically pulling up raincoats. We had to help wherever we could, especially with our prized curry pot, the heart of our restaurant. We had to protect it with our lives, ensuring not a single drop of rainwater would dilute its deliciousness and richness. However, there were some areas we had to surrender to, particularly the customer seating areas which were completely soaked by the rain. But thankfully, the heavens were merciful, as the torrential rain didn't last long and gradually subsided.
But the weather here often comes with an unwelcome bonus.
As soon as the rain stops, the immediate nuisance is the scorching sun.
The blazing sunlight hits the damp concrete surface, evaporating the oppressive heat and causing you to sweat profusely. From being drenched in rain just moments before, you become soaked with sweat instead. It's so hot that your clothes become sticky and cling to you. In short, you're completely drenched in both rainwater and sweat.
Even though it was a hectic, tiring day, and we had to deal with unpredictable weather, amidst the chaos, there were beautiful memories.
Seeing my two daughters fighting on, standing by my side, helping each other pull the tarpaulin, wiping and cleaning up together, without a single complaint, their smiles and the look in their eyes as they held hands filled my heart with indescribable warmth. It made me realize that:
Whether it's pouring rain or scorching sun, as long as our family holds hands and fights together, it's another fulfilling and happy day.
