My first attempt: UBE KALAMAY

I keep seeing this dish on the internet. So I tried it!

From GOOGLE:

I bought all the ingredients for this fantastic dessert called Kalamay in a Korean store in Davis, the city next to where I live! The ingredients are:

16 oz Glutinous Rice 3 cans or 4 cups Coconut Milk 1/2 cup Purple Yam 1 cup Sugar

Put all the ingredients in a non-stick pan and mix them thoroughly until there are no more lumps.

Aside from not having any lumps, the mixture will turn purple from the purple ube yam.
Set the pan on the stove top and turn on the heat to medium. Stir occasionally.

When the mixtures start to heat up, lower the heat to medium-low or simmering to prevent the mixture from boiling. You also have to keep on stirring the mixture.

I changed to using two ladles to mix it thoroughly.

Keep mixing it for a few more minutes. You will notice that the kalamay will start to form.

Keep on stirring!

The kalamy will be sticky and get harder to mix... but keep stirring!

After a few more minutes, the kalamay will pull away from the sides of the pan.

Just a stew more stirs!

It is done!

It easily transfers to a serving plate!

It is a sweet, sticky, mochi-like delight! It is fun to make, and fun to eat!

I like it very much, @silvertop, I'm sure she will like this too!
But this is a unique dessert item, so it would be better if you waited for the purple sweet bread, which I will bake sometime.

It is popular in Hawaii, where I spent my early years.
It tastes like sweet potato, but blander.

That kind of looks like taffy, very interesting. I wondered where the purple came from until I saw the yams, that is really cool! I've never been to the Philippines and not tried that before, I'll have to one of these days. But I'm not likely to make it myself, way too much for just me!

As a Filipino, I have trouble finding a bottle of UBE Purple yams in the French supermarket. I am so jealous you made this in your own kitchen. I am not living in Paris where there's a lot of Filipino and other Asian stores you can actually get this from.

The reason why I am trying this recipe only now is that I was having difficulty locating a store near me... I finally discovered a Korean store in the next city. Purple yams are not easy to find in Woodland. There is a major Asian store in Sacramento, but that's far away!
I will make purple sweet bread next time, @itravelrox! It is served during a luau in Hawaii, and I am craving such bread!

Oh, you're so lucky. So many things to do with Purple yam flavor. You can also do Ube Pandesal with Cheese. Pan de sal is a typical Filipino bread. With Ube Kalamay, we pair it with Pan De Sal. :)

Yes, it is so delicious! And I love the mouth feel. It is so much fun chewing... it feels sticky, yet it doesn't stick to your teeth. I enjoyed eating it. The mouth-feel and texture is like mochi @teacherlynlyn!!!
