Hello, everyone! It's glad to be back on Hive after my busy and sleepless Mother's Day cake orders. I took my time to rest and tend to my abandoned chores while still doing a few more cake orders last week. Also had to edit some photos and videos for content on my business page.
I guess one of the traits I have embodied from my mama is honesty and the extreme despise for lies and deception. She's kind and very much helpful but do her wrong and you're going to regret it. She's brave and fearless that she'll fight and prove people wrong if she knows she's on the right. As a public servant for many years, she have gone against some officials and was never blinded by bribe. Some have attempted to throw mud on her name and she dared them. Because what do you have to be afraid of when you have done every bit of your work with all honesty? Only dishonest people cower and worry. In the end, those people failed and never returned to threaten her.
There's a lot more I wanted to share about her, however, I'll be saving that for the next Mother's Day instead. At home, she's the best mother. She took care of us so well especially me which is why getting myself into bad situation and not fighting for myself and what is right feels like a disrespect to her. I remember being scolded for not speaking up. Yikes! Now that I'm older, I guess I should learn to be brave as well. Going back, she makes delicious foods despite relying mostly on cook books but very much knowledgeable and reliable when it comes to home repair and improvement because that's her forte.
Well, let's jump back to how we celebrated Mother's Day. Some of the jelly cake orders were getting picked up in the morning so I asked my brother that we visit our mama at 6 AM. True enough, he arrived before 6. I was still unmolding some of the cakes and putting them into their cases so I'll just have to wrap them ribbon when I return. I also still prepared the foods we're bringing to the cemetery.
We left home 30 minutes later and bought flowers. I was surprised how warm it was already at 6:30 in the morning and the sun hitting my skin already felt a bit painful.
After going to the gas station, we went next to a fast food restaurant to take out halo-halo. It's one of my mama's favorite cold desserts during summer. It took some minutes before they finished preparing the halo-halo. You can see on the photo below the staff preparing our order.
We arrived at 7:20 in the cemetery, driving past again at this cool shinigami-like statue.
I checked on the halo-halo and was relieved to see the ice cream still hasn't melted. Whew!
We should've arrived earlier at the area where mama was but this flood-prone corner caused our delay for a few minutes. Our car got in trouble last time we passed through that corner because the flood starts shallow and suddenly gets deeper after turning the corner. My brother had to park the car on the side and wait for other vehicles to pass by and check how deep the flood was.
After making sure it's shallow and other drivers assuring that our car can pass through it, my brother drove carefully while I cheered for our car while we traversed the flooded corner.
First thing we did after successfully reaching mama's area was unbox and set up the chairs and table I bought. I had no time to unbox it the other day because I was so busy with my cake orders. We always just squat beside mama's grave. It was painful and numbing on the legs while also juggling the foods on our hands and legs. Now I don't have to worry about that because we already have chairs and table to make our visits comfortable. Excuse my veiny hand, it was tired from making cakes for three days straight.

After setting up the chairs and table, we quickly arranged our foods and the food we're offering to mama. All the foods were bought this year because I no longer have time to cook. For this year, I bought pizza burger, beef and garlic quesadilla, and halo-halo. I also prepared her favorite instant coffee which I also love drinking now and a mini jelly cupcake. The jelly cupcake I brought for us was actually a reject from the order I did few days before. The agar didn't set properly so it had cracks inside which makes the flower solution bleed through it when I inject it.
We then called our sister and chatted while we ate our foods. We prayed together and greeted our mama. As you can see, her picture frame was laying flat on the table. I had to because the wind was quite strong that it was knocked off the table once and fell on the ground.
Of all the photos of mama I have, this was among my favorite shots. She looked so happy here leaning on the ginormous windmill behind her. I remember instructing her to lean on the windmill and smile. She immediately obliged without complaint. Capturing a good photo of my mama was so effortless because she's a natural model in front of the camera. However, she actually doesn't like this photo so much because her nostrils looked big on this angle. Lol. I always tell her that it's okay because she looked very happy on this shot.
I had to cut short our visit to our mama's grave because I need to get back home before the customers arrive to pick up their cakes. I also still have to wrap them with ribbons and carefully place them inside a plastic bag. I was functioning like a zombie that day because I still haven't slept just to finish all the orders on time.
Then on our way home, I saw all these buses parked on a lot. Everyone in the country probably knows why this particular bus company has been banned to operate for 30 days.
Our visit to our mama's grave was only quick which was quite saddening. I promise to make it up on her birthday. Besides, the sun was already too painful on the skin that time. It was already uncomfortable to stay longer even when using an umbrella. I also think my arms got sunburned a bit because I forgot to apply sunscreen.
For sure, most of us look up to our mothers. Their roles in the family is so big and not for the faint-hearted. It's a lifelong responsibility that must be done with precision, patience, and love. Thus, also a reminder for women to think twice before getting into this pivotal change in her life just because of societal pressure and whatnot.
Anyway, I'd describe my mama as strong, compassionate, disciplinarian, resourceful, and has a soft heart for her children despite reprimanding us most of the time. A well-respected woman and boss in her field. My role model, my travel/food buddy, and my favorite camera model. I miss her a lot! ♡
