Today I’m going to share one of my family’s favorite Nusantara food or our local dishes, it’s spicy, has a slightly tender texture, and smells absolutely mouthwatering. Today’s main dish is spicy shredded mackerel tuna. Alright, let’s get right to it
Ingredients:
- 4 mackerel tuna
- 200 grams red chili peppers
- 100 grams bird’s eye chili peppers
- 10 shallots
- 4 garlic
- 2 candlenuts
- 1 stalk lemongrass
- 2 kaffir lime leaves
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp sugar
- cooking oil
- lime
- Chopped scallions
Instructions:

- Clean the mackerel tuna by removing the gills, then rub with salt to reduce slime and rinse thoroughly

- Place the cleaned skipjack tuna into a steamer

- Steam the mackerel tuna until cooked through for 15 minutes

- Turn off the heat and let cool

- Once cooled, separate the meat from the bones, then shred the mackerel meat

- Next, prepare the red chili peppers, bird’s eye chili peppers, candlenuts, shallots, and garlic


- Place them in a food processor


- Process until the chili peppers and shallots are crushed but not too fine

- Heat cooking oil in a pan

Once hot, add the chili mixture to the pan
Stir briefly


Add the fried lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves to the pan
Stir until the chilies are cooked and fragrant

- Once they start to cook, add the shredded mackerel to the pan


- Stir until evenly mixed, then add salt and sugar to taste

- Add chopped scallions

- Stir again, then turn off the heat


- Spicy Shredded Mackerel Tuna is ready to serve
