Confidence Comes From Doing, Not Just Believing.

Wonderful topic I must say. And I definitely have my own two cents to drop on this particular topic, talking about Confidence. I think confidence is a two way thing, yes. I'm very sure about one while I'm not so sure about the other, first I think confidence can be something you're born with. We see kids today who are out doing stuffs, being on big platforms, before crowds and all of that without flinching or being somehow about it. So, what I'm saying is I think it can be natural, it can come naturally.

Now, the second is personal as it is what I've experienced and I can say I'm sure of, so I will be taking my time to talk about it. And, it is that confidence comes from experience.

Now, there was a time in my life where I actually cannot stand before crowds to talk, or even stand up amidst crowds and walk out. Not to talk of being called out amongst crowds, I would just wish the ground should open up and swallow me. But along the line, I began to act and do drama and all of that, and I do very well at it. It felt different, maybe because I knew I was behind a character and is just acting. So, doing that almost every time help built me, I find out that I can stay before crowd and act what I'm asked to, be it to act a debater with someone else, or to act a thug or a political figure who's giving promises to the citizens and all of that. And that was how it changed for me, I discovered it (confidence) in motio. Acting gave me the push needed as I stopped feeling intimidated by crowds.

Now, I have something else, and it was one that gave me a hard time, and that's cooking. Even though it has now become my hobby, there was a time I was having serious issue with it. Not that I can't cook, but I can't cook for too many people. Not until I began going for events and my boss happens to be a caterer/chef. That was when I knew there's more to cooking and there are skills you need to master. And because I wasn't confident of my cooking skills or what I could do, I would only help behind, just wash the dishes, pots and all, or just help them with cuttings or peeling maggie cubes. I can do anything but being the one in charge of things.

Because I do have the fear of what if things go bad, whst if the soup turns out bad, what if, what if and what if.... But my boss noticed that and didn't allow it. The way she began didn't give me the hunch that she's doing it intentionally and to train me to be confident with cooking. She would insist that only she and I should be in charge of a particular pot of either soup or rice or anything. She's a very busy person, so there are times during the work that she would sit down attending to potential customers online or checking others that are cooking and leave me with the pot we are both meant to handle. The pressure is always much for me, I would start feeling somehow when it's time to add ingredients to what we are cooking and she will ask me to go ahead with it. I'm glad and happy for all that she did now, I'm happy she trusted me even before I trusted myself.

Like I said earlier, I'm happy about it now, even though I was unsure the first few times it happened. But now, I am waiting better. Even before I stopped working because I had to travel I have been handling a lot of things, there are times she wouldn't even follow us to event's because we might have two at a time in different states and she can't split herself into two. Now, I can stand anywhere and boast of my cooking skills and cook without fear holding me down.

So, confidence to me is not something that just comes like that, it grows after you've start a thing, after you've tried or after you've failed at a thing and you realized the world didn't come to an end. So, I think if you've never done a thing before, you actually do not need confidence to begin what you need is the willingness to do, confidence shows up along the way. Well, that was shown it happened for me.

Biggy thanks 🙏

This cooking thing enn, I still doubt my ability to cook. It's so bad that I don't give people what I cook because I believe it is not nice, lol.

I am glad you overcame that negative mindset. Confidence is something that can be built with time, we only need to be intentional

Ohhh, keep putting in your best bro, don't be scared. Also, practice and cook more.

You are absolutely right, confidence grows, it doesn't just start in one day , it's good to also know that you are gradually overcoming your fears in cooking.
