Before I share the delicious menu for a surprise 60th birthday party, I need to tell you a little about the event.
I do hope Foodies Bee Hive welcomes descriptive food blogs, and not only recipes. Please forgive me if I am mistaken!
I shared with you our recent fabulous friends/family weekend at the beautiful large home right on Sheffield Beach above ancient volcanic rocks, with 180° sea views.
One would generally expect a surprise birthday celebration close to your birth date, but a month early, makes for a real surprise!
Seeing a team of professional private chefs in your weekend kitchen was an even bigger surprise, and the ultimate indulgence for the birthday boy, the hosts, and all the guests!
My nephew lives in Minnesota, and booked this special Airbnb, but also insisted on spoiling his Dad and all of us by booking the super talented team of Ballito Private Chefs, despite my sister-in-law telling him we'll have plenty of hands on deck to cook up a storm for the birthday celebration!
However, coming to South Africa with dollars in your pocket means you can splash out, which he did, in style.
My brother's face was a picture to behold when he walked into the party!
He'd gone fishing earlier so my sister-in-law told him he had to go and shower as he smelt of bait!
That's when the chefs entered, and took over the kitchen.
The menu was delectable, beautiful, and a more than satisfying canape service - snacks and nibbles, small bowls and desserts, plus the stunning, deliciously rich chocolate birthday cake.
The chefs naturally had done all the prepping beforehand, but cooked some of the food components onsite. Those of us who love cooking, sat watching and chatting with them while they were calmly and efficiently doing the final touches.
Super efficient service, the platters were served wherever everyone was seated, and we were amazed at the variety.
First on the menu was
- Thinly sliced smoked Salmon on mini English muffins piped with a herbed creme fraiche
- Chicken skewers with a Satay sauce, and
- Seared beef bruschetta with horseradish creme fraiche
- Mini Lamb Wraps with Tzatziki and Caramelized Red Onion
- Mini Pulled Pork Burgers
- Thai Chicken Curry mini bowls
- Chicken Schnitzel with Mustard Cream Sauce
As you have seen, there was so much food being served, so I skipped some of it, as my sweet tooth did not want to miss out on the desserts. - Choux puffs with deliciously light and fluffy vanilla cream filling topped with melted choc, still warm.
- White Chocolate Mousse topped with glazed Strawberries and Blackberries
I forgot to take a pic of the very last dessert which were tiny little sponge cakes soaked in a liqueur sauce, and piped with cream, absolutely yum!
About the birthday cake, as I shared in my previous post:
One of my brother's hobbies is woodwork and the cake resembled a log of wood, complete with a hammer and chisel, a cutting blade, and nails, all edible.
The dishes for sure satisfied the fussiest palates!
Once the food serving was done, we had a spotlessly clean kitchen, leftovers for the next day; what a pleasure!
The party continued well into the night, with the sound of laughter (especially from the womenfolk), and the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks as background music.
The perfect ending to a very special early 60th birthday celebration with delicious food served by talented chefs!
