Do you love eating desserts, or are you one of those who feel the meal is incomplete without them? If yes, what do you prefer then? Was it something sweet? You might be looking for something to ease the aftertaste of whatever food you eat. Perhaps some local delicacies? Though if you asked me, I prefer eating fruits. Try trying to have a healthy lifestyle! However, there are also some that I would suddenly crave for a specific food once it was triggered, lol. Can you relate? Just like in my previous blog, where the husband and I ate some halo-halo . Seeing the Ube flavored ice cream on top, I remembered Ube Halaya
What is Ube Halaya?
It is a Filpino dessert from the ingredients UBE or Purple Yam. Smash and add some milk and sugar. Perhaps some grated cheese on top. It is best to eat alone or add in Halo-halo too.
With that, I asked the husband why he was not cooking at home as his sister bought some Ube the last she visited, and it seemed no one was interested. Of course, he agreed, he doesn't have a choice 🤣
This is how the unpeel purple yam; is a root crop. Since it needs to boil. we decided to peel it first for convenience and less mess. Others prefer washing the mud.

Once done, cut it into dice but not too small. Place it in a pot, and add water to boil.
You will know it is cooked as the texture becomes soft and the color changes to darker purple.

Remove the purple yam in the pot upon checking that it's soft enough. Then you smash it. At first, we considered using an electric grinder for meat, but then it was too small. So we opted to grate in manually.
Disclaimer: It is our first time cooking Ube Halaya, so we are unfamiliar with the process.

Then, it's time to add evaporated milk.

Mixed, mixed, mixed.
Then, in a separate heated pan, add some butter. In our case, we just used margarine as it was available. Once diluted, add the grated Purple Yam.

Again, mix well and add condensed milk.

You may add some sugar if you want it sweeter or adjust the volume of condensed milk. For a mouthwatering aroma, others opted for vanilla. As for me, I tried my best to resign from being a sweet tooth 😁.
The Ube is already cooked, so you must ensure it was mixed well to have an even taste.
And after a few minutes, here is our finished product 🤣.

Pardon if it wasn't plated well! Well, the kids are so energetic and want to have a taste. However, for better presentation, if you want to give this a present or perhaps to be served to visitors, you may place this in llanera (letch plan molders) food containers or even in a disposable plastic tub.
If you read above, I mentioned it was our first time cooking, so did we succeed?
The taste was good; it suited what we wanted, yet the texture wasn't. A little bit rough to the tongue; perhaps it was because we grated it. Hehe, maybe next time we could manage to prepare it perfectly
