Provocative Tunjas

Today I wanted to bring you some very classic breads called tunjas. In my day, that's what they were called, but now I think they're called piñitas. For a long time, I've wanted to remember that sweet taste from my childhood and adolescence. Today, I tried to make them using a recipe I was given. Even though they turned out delicious, I feel like their size wasn't quite right. However, in terms of flavor and softness on the inside, they were excellent.

Hoy he querido traerles unos panes muy clásicos llamados tunjas, en mis tiempos se llamaban así, ahora creo que son piñitas, desde hace mucho tiempo he querido recordar ese dulce sabor de mi niñez y adolescencia, hoy intente hacerla con una receta que me dieron, aun cuando me quedaron divinas, siento que su tamaño no era el verdadero, sin embargo, de sabor y suavidad por dentro, quedaron excelente.

And now I bring you this delicious recipe: a soft sweet bread that we can eat for afternoon tea, accompanied by a delicious hot coffee with milk; that's how I remember it. I tried to replicate it my own way, here are the ingredients.

Y ahora les traigo esta rica receta: un suave pan dulce que podemos comer en las meriendas, acompañado de un rico café con leche caliente; de esta manera lo recuerdo. Intente replicarla a mi manera, aquí les dejo los ingredientes.

Ingredients:

  • 675 grams of all-purpose wheat flour
  • 1¼ cups of warm milk
  • 100 grams of margarine
  • 1 heaping tablespoon of granulated yeast
  • 130 grams of sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Ingredientes:

  • 675grs de harina de trigo todo uso
  • 1 taza y ¼ de leche tibia
  • 100grs de margarina
  • 1 cucharada colmada de levadura granulada
  • 130 grs de azúcar
  • 2 huevos
  • 1 cdta, de sal

Mix the yeast with half the milk and a tablespoon of sugar, cover, and let it ferment.

Mezclamos la levadura con la mitad de la leche, y una cucharada de azúcar, tapamos y dejamos que se fermente.

In a bowl or on the table, place the flour in a volcano shape. In the center, add the remaining milk, the sugar, and the beaten eggs (reserving two tablespoons), and add the salt to the rim. Finally, add the yeast to the center. Mix everything together and begin kneading for five minutes.

En un recipiente o en la mesa colocamos la harina formando un volcán, en el centro agregamos el resto de la leche, el azúcar, los huevo batidos (reservamos dos cucharadas) y en borde le añadimos la sal. Por último, le añadimos igualmente en el centro la levadura. Integramos todo y comenzamos a amasar por cinco minutos.

We fold and knead until smooth. Then we divide the dough into equal portions and shape it into balls. We place it on a greased baking sheet, cover it, and let it rest for at least half an hour. Divide the dough into two portions, one for making tunjas and the other for a whole loaf.

Y doblamos y amasamos hasta que quede lisa, luego dividimos la masa en porciones iguales y hacemos bolitas, la colocamos en una bandeja engrasada, tapamos y dejamos reposar por la menos media hora. Compartí la masa en dos unas para hacer las tunjas y la otra para un pan entero.

After the time has passed, we make some holes in them, brush them with egg, sprinkle with sugar (as much as you like), and add a little butter. We put them in the oven until golden brown, then remove them, cover with a cloth, and they're ready to eat. I hope you like the recipe.

Pasado el tiempo, le hacemos unos piquetes, les untamos huevo, le esparcimos azúcar, la que desee, y le colocamos un poco de mantequilla. Metemos al horno hasta que doren y sacamos, tapamos con un paño, y están listos para comer. Espero que les agrade la receta.

How lovely to eat those little treats that taste like childhood 😍 I long to taste those scones my grandmother used to bring me in the afternoons when I was little, it would take me back to my childhood, but nobody makes them anymore and I don't know the recipe 💔
