My plans for Christmas are very simple, with not too much involvement or spending. I just want to keep it low-key, as I have always done. My plans are as follows:
Sending gifts home:
This is the first priority this coming Christmas. In fact, it has become a compulsory culture in my part of the world for children to send goodies home during Christmas, especially male children. Yes, it is already a compulsory thing, but we do not hold grudges while doing it because most times, it is done according to one’s pocket size. Honestly, I have a big budget for this, but I am not going to take it too seriously. I will do according to what is in my pocket at that moment. There is no need to take a loan for that!
Travelling home:
It has been my tradition to travel home whenever it is the Christmas season, and I am going to do that this coming Christmas as well. The end-of-the-year season (Christmas season) is the only free and easy time we get to meet family members we have not seen over the years. This will be one of the biggest moments of this Christmas season, especially with the fact that my dad is going to host a small family party to celebrate God for blessing him with his own house. For this reason, my dad wants everyone to be present, and it is going to be merriment galore.
AFCON 2025:
My Christmas this year would be a mess if I do not follow the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations kicking off on 21st December 2025. It is going to be a whole lot of fun, especially because I will be at home by then, where I will not be disturbed or bothered by work. We have a solar system at home, so there is no need to worry about the unavailability of electricity to watch the matches or the need to spend much money buying fuel to power the generator. The most interesting thing is that my dad loves this kind of tournament and is a big supporter of the Super Eagles, just like I am. So it is going to be a good father-and-son moment. Also, the ladies are going to frown a lot because we will not leave the television for them to watch other shows.
Excess food:
Apart from the festive foods, my home is such that a variety of foods is always available, and whenever we visit home, we eat and gain weight before we leave (for those of us that are slim). I cannot wait to travel home to eat my favourite fruits, such as coconut, without buying them. Yes, we have plants in our compound.
In all these, my budget for this Christmas is very low. I do not have any plans to host friends that will make me spend more money. All I will do is travel, spend time with family without moving out of the compound, eat food, watch football matches, and sleep well. Finish!
Thanks for reading.
