Happy Friday Hivers!
There are times when my mother and I get bored at home, so we start thinking of something fun to do together. This time, we decided to make cookies and cream ice cream. We have been limiting our intake of sweets since we ate quite a lot of sugary foods last May, but this time we couldn't resist because we really wanted to make our own ice cream.
In the Philippines, if you want to cook something but find that you're missing a few ingredients, you don't always need to travel all the way to a grocery store. We have what we call a sari-sari store. It is a small neighborhood shop, usually located just a few steps away from your home and often run by a neighbor.

It is called a sari-sari store because it sells a variety of items, both food and non-food products. You can think of it as a mini grocery store, but with a smaller space and a more limited selection of goods. Despite its size, it is very convenient, especially when you only need a few ingredients or household essentials.

Since our decision to make ice cream was quite spontaneous and we live a bit far from town, my mother simply bought the ingredients from a nearby sari-sari store in our neighborhood. She purchased Nestlé cream, evaporated milk, condensed milk, and Oreo biscuits since we planned to make a cookies and cream flavored ice cream. Fortunately, the small store had everything we needed, making it easy for us to start preparing our homemade treat right away.

After we completed all the ingredients, we immediately started making the ice cream. First, we crushed the Oreo biscuits until they became fine crumbs. We did it manually, using simple tools at home.

Once the biscuits were properly crushed, we mixed Nestlé cream, evaporated milk, and condensed milk in a bowl and stirred them well until everything was evenly combined. After that, we added the crushed Oreo biscuits into the mixture and mixed it again.

When everything was fully blended, we transferred the mixture into a covered container and placed it inside the freezer to set and become ice cream.

The next day, my brother was the first one who tried the ice cream. He said it tasted just like the ice cream you can buy in the market. We were really happy to hear that because it means our effort was worth it.
This is how we spend our time at home. Whenever we feel bored, my mother and I always try to find something to cook or something productive to do. Simple activities like this make our day more enjoyable and meaningful.

Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
