A pinoy celebration must-have: "Where's the lumpia?" - A simple and easy recipe

Kamusta, bro and sis Hivers! It’s Kymmy here and I’m back with a new post. Remember my local market blog?

20250501_170047.jpg

I wrote there that I will make lumpiang shanghai (spring rolls) for my sister. And while I was thinking of how will I write the blog, I thought, why not share how I made lumpia?

Simple ingredients, delicious taste

The ingredients are very few and simple. Even the preparation, too. But the wrapping takes patience and time. However, once it’s cooked, it’s all worth it 😉👌

Also, you don’t have to follow the sequence of my steps. As long as you mix them all well, it’s good.

Here are the ingredients:

  • Php 150.00 of ground pork meat (I forgot to check the exact weight. I’m really sorry 🥺)
  • Grated carrots (2 pcs)
  • Chopped red onions (3-5 pcs)
  • Lumpia wrapper
  • Magic sarap seasoning (3 sachets)
  • Pepper (1 tsp)
  • Salt (to taste but what I used is 3 pinches.)
  • Sugar (½ tsp)

Step 1: Avengers, assemble!

20250501_144549.jpg

Assemble all the ingredients on the table or kitchen counter. I always do this because I don’t like moving to and fro picking up this, then that. Then, I forgot something and need to search for it again. It’s a time-waster. So, I assemble everything first.

Step 2: Don't cry, baby...

20250501_150724.jpg

Chop your onions and put them in a big bowl. Also, prepare to use your sleeves to dry your tears in case those onions bully you. Bad onions. Bad.

Step 3: I hope this isn't Peppa

20250501_151145.jpg

Put the ground pork inside the bowl with the onions. Make sure they are well-defrosted because if not, when the ice melts, it will make the mixture soggy.

Step 4: Sugar, spice, and everything nice

20250501_151356.jpg

It’s time to mix in the seasonings, pepper, salt, magic sarap, and sugar. Mix it very well.

Step 5: Bugs Bunny loves it

20250501_152723.jpg

Include the carrots in the mixture and mix it very well. Since the carrots are a bit difficult to mix, you may end up with lumps. So, mix it well.

Leave it for 10 minutes for the flavour to soak up.

Step 6: Wrap me tight like my budget

20250501_165159.jpg

I would really like to show you how to wrap it but my mama won’t take pictures of me doing it step by step. So, all I can show you is the wrapped lumpia. But you can check YouTube for tutorials. Also, it doesn’t look that nice because I’m still not good at wrapping. When my mama saw my wraps, she laughed at me. What a big bully! No lumpia for her.

Step 7: How deep is your love?

20250501_165441.jpg

Be sure it is deep-fried in oil for even cooking. Also, don’t overcrowd or put too much lumpia in one batch, or it won’t be crispy or cooked thoroughly. Fry only on medium heat until golden brown.

Enjooooooy~

20250501_170047.jpg

You can dip it in sweet chili sauce like in the photo or ketchup. Whatever goes with your taste. Enjoy your food!

P.S. Extras for another day

20250501_171456.jpg

I ran out of wrappers and still have about ⅓ of the mixture left so I put it in a plastic bag and placed it in the freezer including the wrapped lumpia. I will wrap the leftovers next time. I divided the lumpia into batches so that we don’t have to wait and defrost the whole lot before cooking just a few pieces only.

I’ll be sharing more recipes with you in the future. Stay tuned! 😉

🙏Thanks for reading my bro and sis Hivers! I really appreciate your time, effort, and patience. 🥰

Agree! Lumpia isn’t just food, it’s tradition, nostalgia, and comfort all rolled into one crispy bite.😀

Lumpia is a must 👌

Always always here in our place, in every celebration, I heard visitors ask: "Is there lumpia? Where is the lumpia?"

And if there's none, their face changes to 😒

😅😅🤣🤣🤣

Lumpia is one of the famous foods of us Filipinos, not only in the Philippines but around the world. Here, in the US, they always ask me if I know how to cook Lumpia since they know I am from the Philippines, but unluckily, I can't. I am glad you made a blog about this. I am going to try to cook too when I have the chance to go to the Asian store and look for the ingredients.😅🙂

I'm happy to help 😊

I think the ingredient that you really to buy in an asian store is the magic sarap. The others I think is easily available in common stores. I hope everything goes well with and don't add too much salt because you already have lots of magic sarap (the Filipino magic 😉) And don't make the filling too thick because when you cook it, the wrapper is already cooked but the inner part is still raw. And I think for the weight of porky it's 0.06 or 0.08 kg. I'm not sure. I forgot to check it before throwing the packaging. I tried to find it in the trash but all I can see clearly is 0.0 somtehing and the last number looks like a half 6 or 8 so I'm not sure.

I hope these helps 😁

Ang sarap! We ate lumpia few days ago now I am craving for it 😁

That's nice! Did you use any dipping sauce?

Lumpia is what I always look first in handaan and fiesta here at our place. It doesn't feel complete when you cant eat it. I love pairing it with spaghetti. Thanks for sharing!

Spaghetti or bihon for me hehehe 😁 then add an ice cold glass of coke 😉

Thanks for posting in the ASEAN Hive Community.

Ohh, lumpia! The star in every handaan! Very common dish in every cuisine but, the very first to dissappear in the table. Why is that? 😅
