Hello, dear Hive Food community! Is there anything more tempting than the smell of freshly made bread filling the entire house? For me, very few things compare to that feeling. Today I want to share a recipe that I really enjoyed making: homemade bread rolls that are simple, soft, and prepared entirely on the stovetop. I didn’t need many ingredients or a complicated process. The dough was easy to work with, and to make these breads even more special, I decided to fill them with a delicious sauce and caramelized onions. The result was a wonderful combination of fluffy bread, flavorful sauce, and the slightly sweet taste of the onions. The best part is that this recipe proves that not having an oven doesn’t mean giving up on enjoying homemade bread. So today, I invite you to join me on this little homemade baking adventure.
2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon sugar, a pinch of salt, 1 egg, 1 tablespoon baking powder, 1/2 cup warm water, 3 tablespoons oil; for the sauce: 1 onion, 2 cloves of garlic, 2 tablespoons tomato paste, 1/2 cup milk, salt and oregano to taste.
PASO A PASO:
STEP BY STEP:
First, we need to make the dough. In a bowl, add the wheat flour; in the center of the flour, add the egg, sugar, oil, a pinch of salt, and baking powder. Mix everything together, then gradually add water until a firm dough forms. Cover and let it rest for about 30 minutes, while you wash and slice the onion into half-moons and crush the garlic cloves.

In a skillet, add oil and sauté the onion and garlic. Let the onions caramelize, then season with salt and oregano. Add the tomato paste and milk, and cook until thickened. The dough is now ready to shape into buns. Dust a pot with a lid with flour, place it on the stove over low heat, and let it warm up for about 5 minutes before adding the buns. Once the buns are in the pot, cover and let them cook.

Bake the bread for 6 minutes on one side and then 6 minutes on the other. It’s a quick-bake bread, though you can cut open one of them to check if they’re done. Remove from the heat, fill with the sauce, cheese, and ham—it’s delicious.
