A Taste of China

Magandang buhay💛

A lovely Friday in LTB. A mix of sunshine and gray clouds, so it wasn't too hot.

We checked out from the guesthouse at 11 am. Re-visited the stainless bending shop, but they were still working on our requested specifications. They said they may get things done around mid to late afternoon, so we left for the auto shop to set an appointment for a change oil service. From there, we drove to the Merlion Food Resto for lunch.

The husband kept telling me about it, saying the food reminded him of China. They discovered it not so long ago, during a delivery trip with one of the boys.

Anyway, it was quiet and empty when we got there.

My lao gong (husband) wanted laksa noodles, but they were not serving any for the day. So what's the next option?

Rice, literally. Chao fan (Chinese fried rice), that is.

Then a bowl of pork belly soup (Bak Kuh Teh). The hubby laughed when I commented "this is definitely chinese," after trying a spoonful of the soup.

While it is a bit different (lighter) from the usually dark and thick soup we have had during our stay in Guangzhou, the distinct taste and scent aroma are the same.

And there was another dish—Hainanese chicken rice, which was delicious and flavorful, but a tad too gingery for me. It had that sharp sting that while the tongue appreciates, the stomach dislikes.

The little one was calm in his chair. He did eat a few bits of chicken, then stayed quiet as if he felt at home.

Food was good, ambience was okay. Overall a nice dine in experience. We left the place with full tummies and refreshed memories of the years spent in the Northern part of China during our working years. All good! All good.
