It's an interesting view on gold, but I agree that most of the gold would have been gone if they didn't close it down.

I'm sure the plan was to preserve the gold but that messed up inflation to the degree we're experiencing today. I don't think this would be classified as necessary evil move because the disadvantage was way too much.
