While having a gentle stroll around the lovely village of Beeley, Derbyshire, UK, we decided to call in at the Old Smithy Café, which has received quite a few accolades including being voted 'England’s Best New Business in 2025.' A great achievement!

They do recommend booking a table beforehand, but we decided to risk it. It was dog friendly too, as they even sell doggy ice cream. 🙂🍦

On offer were freshly baked scones and cakes, as well as home-cooked meals prepared fresh on the day.

We were lucky as there were plenty of tables to choose from. It looked really cosy inside and was nicely decorated.

We decided to have a double espresso, a latte, and a couple of cobs. Mine was a vegetarian sausage and egg cob, and it was very tasty. It was a little expensive here but it's in a posh area so it's only to be expected. We went for the cheapest food on the menu!

I identified with the proverb on the plaque on the wall, "A coffee a day keeps the grumpies away". Exactly!

The two staff members were friendly and welcoming. It’s the sort of café where you can sit back and relax with a good coffee after a walk around the village. An interesting fact is, I'm sure it was called 'The Old Smithy' as it used to be a blacksmith's workshop, commonly called a "smithy' back in the day. I would definitely call in again if I were in the area.
