A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that I’d been to the 7 de Agosto neighborhood in Bogotá. That day, after running the errands we’d gone to do on the area, we took the chance to try a Mexican restaurant that had been recommended to us called Tacaloa.
The restaurant is located across from one side of the 7 de Agosto market. On the first floor, there’s a taqueria with a huge counter facing the kitchen where you can eat tacos standing up.
On the second floor, there’s a restaurant serving slightly more elaborate dishes, where they tell you they prepare regional Mexican dishes using Colombian ingredients.
We went to the second floor. We wanted to sit down and have a beer. We ordered a couple of Coronas, but for a change, we decided to order them as Micheladas. Have you ever tried a Michelada?
The Michelada is a Mexican beer cocktail. The classic one is lime juice and salt, usually served with some hot sauce
The one we tried this time, in addition to lime and salt, included Tabasco sauce and soy sauce. It was truly delicious and refreshing, perfect for our meal.
For our meal, we ordered three dishes. First, a tortilla soup. It was delicious, though it could have been a little spicier.
Some grilled lamb tacos served with guacamole and a dark sauce that was yummy.
And the dish I liked best was a green mole with brisket, served with corn tortillas. And even though the mole wasn’t like the typical Mexican green mole, it tasted delicious.
The experience was well worth it, and we’re looking forward to trying the taco bar on the first floor another time.
