WEEKEND ENGAGEMENT TOPICS 288/ I am a procrastinator

Hello friends, how was your weekend? This weekend I'm going to sing again with the flamenco choir “Our Things” in a theater and in La Independencia Square, the central square of the town where I live. Singing has become one of the activities I enjoy most. At this time of year, especially, choirs are very busy. So I'm writing these lines late on Sunday evening. Yesterday I was singing, and then we went to a restaurant to eat, drink some wine, and continue singing after dinner! And today I had to go with my partner to another city to look for some things we need for Christmas dinner. Our town is small, and there are some things we can't get here. Today, I'm going to write on the following topic proposed by @galenkp:

Do you have a strong work ethic or do you find yourself procrastinating and seeking to avoid working? Explain.

I am an artist

I would love to say that I have always been a responsible person with a strong work ethic, who always fulfills her commitments and that is why I am a prosperous, successful person. But if I told you that, I would be lying through my teeth. I am a writer, an artist, a dreamer. And over the years, things have not improved. On the contrary, as I have grown older, I find it harder to be consistent, to be productive, to focus on a project that allows me to live peacefully. I'm not going to lie to you. I have my partner in front of me, who has supported me in my literary projects over the last year and knows that I'm a lost cause, a procrastinator. That's the truth.

But it is also true, as he knows, that since I arrived in Spain, as I promised him, I have done everything possible to make good friends with the aim of doing some literary activities here, and I have tried to continue with some online activities. In September, I started a Creative Writing workshop, and as the year draws to a close, I have several students who have become enthusiastic about writing and are continuing in my workshop.

This project was made possible because I participated in the Reading Club for several months, read some of the books we agreed to read, and attended our Reading Club meetings. This allowed me to befriend Elena, the person who runs the Reading Club, and at one meeting she told them about my project to do a Creative Writing Workshop, and several people really liked the idea. I didn't have to make a big effort. After the summer, I started the workshop. The problem is that the money I get paid for the Creative Writing workshop is not much. And although I live a modest life, my partner covers the basic expenses of food and utilities (rent, water, electricity). I should be able to help him, but I can't. This man in front of me is very generous and patient. He also helped me replace my reading glasses when I lost them and covered other unexpected expenses I've had.

I should have more students. Right now I only have eight, and sometimes even fewer, five or six. Or I could go back to working as a proofreader or book editor. But I haven't been consistent, my mind struggles to focus, to come up with a good digital marketing plan, like my older sister does. I opened an Instagram account to offer my services as a proofreader and editor, and I haven't posted anything in a month. Moving to another country, another continent, isn't easy. But many people do it and don't spend their lives procrastinating. So that's my big challenge for 2026. For myself, for my partner, for our relationship. To stop procrastinating, start planning my schedule, and be more productive in 2026. Thank you for reading. Have a Merry Chritmas and a Happy New Year.
