A Late-Night Cycling Detour Around Bukit Gombak

in #travel2 days ago

Sometimes a cycling adventure does not really go according to plan, but I think that is also what makes wandering around the city interesting.

My original plan was actually to visit Little Guilin again. I have already been there several times, but recently I saw a TikTok video showing another spot where Little Guilin can apparently be viewed from a different angle. Of course, that immediately caught my curiosity! I wanted to find the exact spot and see what kind of view it would offer compared to the usual area that I normally visit.

Unfortunately, I left the house a little later than I planned LOL.

By the time I arrived around Bukit Gombak, there was not much daylight left. I thought that even if I managed to find the viewpoint, there probably would not be enough sunset light for me to properly appreciate Little Guilin anyway. So instead of rushing around trying to find the place in the darkness, I decided to save that adventure for another day.

And honestly, I was already starving!

So my next destination became the nearby hawker centre where I went straight to one of my favorite stalls. I ordered my usual fried fish head soup, which is one of those dishes that I keep coming back for. This time, I chose rice instead of noodles because I was really hungry after cycling.

The soup was comforting, especially with the generous pieces of fried fish, vegetables, and that flavorful broth. This stall never fails to deliver a satisfying meal, and that is probably the reason why I have become such a loyal customer. Of course, I also had a bubble milk tea to complete my dinner. Calories burned from cycling, calories returned immediately hahaha.

After finishing my meal, I suddenly had enough energy for another round of cycling.

Earlier, while making my way to the hawker centre, I noticed Bukit Gombak Park, so I made a mental note to check it out afterward. Since I was already nearby, I thought, why not?

The park turned out to be quite simple, but I actually enjoyed exploring it at night. The pathways were nicely illuminated, and there were plenty of trees surrounding the area. There was a playground with slides and swings, sheltered seating areas, a public toilet, drinking fountains, and even vending machines. These small facilities make a big difference, especially for people who are jogging, cycling, or simply spending some time outdoors.

Near the entrance, I also noticed a restaurant. It looked quite inviting under the warm lights, and immediately I thought that maybe I should dine there during my next visit. But considering I had just finished an entire bowl of fish head soup with rice and bubble tea, I definitely had to pass this time LOL.

What I enjoyed most was simply cycling around without having to worry about rushing home. It was already late at night, but since tomorrow is a holiday, timing did not really matter to me. I could sleep late tonight and wake up late tomorrow.

And I guess that is my version of enjoying a long weekend—good food, quiet parks, night cycling, and discovering something unexpected along the way.

Little Guilin will have to wait for another adventure.

See you on my next cycling journey!

I miss the good old days when I could travel outside at night. Currently it's not safe here inn big cities in Indonesia. Bad economy, people tend to do bad things to survive

That’s unfortunate to hear. Being able to explore safely at night is something I really appreciate here... hopefully things improve there soon. Stay safe! 🙏
