Today, I revisited the Food Place food court, located at Pavilion Mall. The food court is located beside the Oriental Kopi Restaurant. It is time to try food from another stall.
This time, I ordered Crispy tempura noodles box from the Xia Yuan Yuan stall, which cost RM19.90 per bowl.
The Noodles are coated in a dark, savory, and likely soy-sauce-based dressing, giving them a rich color and glistening appearance. The Tempura prawns are coated in a light, airy batter and deep-fried to a perfect golden-brown. A perfectly cooked sunny-side-up fried egg sits atop the noodles, with a vibrant yellow yolk that is soft and runny. The dish is garnished with freshly chopped spring onions (scallions), adding a touch of freshness and color. It is served with a small bowl of clear soup on the side. This is common with dry noodle dishes in Malaysia, meant to be sipped between bites to cleanse the palate or to add a bit of moisture if desired.
Crispy Tempura Noodles Box is a modern creation, its components have rich, distinct histories. It's a fusion dish that beautifully represents Malaysia's multicultural food scene. It combines the Japanese staple (tempura prawn) with a Malaysian-Chinese style of noodle preparation (Dry Tossed Noodles), creating a unique and delicious meal that appeals to modern palates.
