Today I visited the Food Place food court, located at Pavilion Mall. The food court is located beside the Oriental Kopi Restaurant.

House of Hakka has recently introduced Economy Rice (mixed rice/杂饭), a popular and affordable Malaysian dining option where customers can choose from a variety of dishes displayed in trays and pair them with white rice.

For protein options, there are curry chicken, braised pork, fried fish, stir-fried chicken, and eggs (fried or braised).

For Vegetable options, there are stir-fried kangkung (water spinach), lady’s fingers (okra), long beans, mixed stir-fried vegetables, and tofu dishes.

The dishes are prepared in familiar home-style methods: braised, stir-fried with sambal or garlic, or cooked in curries.

Pricing is structured by combinations (e.g., 2 vegetables for RM9, 1 meat + 1 vegetable for RM11.50, etc.), reflecting typical economy rice stalls but set in a cleaner, modern food court environment.

After looking around, I grab the curry chicken and stir-fried okra with rice that cost me RM14 per plate.

By offering economy rice, House of Hakka is aligning with its brand identity – celebrating Hakka heritage while catering to modern dining trends. Their menu highlights traditional Hakka comfort flavors (like braised pork and tofu) alongside Malaysian favorites (kangkung belacan, curry chicken). Unlike roadside stalls, their setup in Pavilion Mall emphasizes hygiene, presentation, and convenience for urban workers looking for a quick yet hearty lunch.
