Hi everyone I'm am Trecia Ann Demiar, I am 20 years old, the second of five siblings, and I live in Malingin, Bogo City, Cebu. I am a third-year college student at Felipe R. Verallo College, taking up Bachelor of Science in Midwifery. And now I'll share my journey as a student. It hasn't been easy, but thank God I've managed. I'm a third-year student this year.
This is a picture of my duty every time we go to the clinic, with my classmates. The pressure is intense; you feel overwhelmed and don't even know how to process your feelings.I'm so scared that I might make a mistake in what my Clinical Instructor asks me to do every time a patient visits the clinic. And we also doing a demonstration, and our CI give us a procedure and to study.
And taking vital signs of the patient; that's part of our duties as students—to take care of the patient and the baby.
It's really difficult, especially assisting a baby after delivery. The nervousness is intense, my hands shake, I'm so afraid of making a mistake with the baby, especially when giving injections. They're so small and their veins are so tiny, it's very challenging. Our Clinical Instructor guides us, but it's still different, the nervousness is overwhelming.

During our first duty, we were just observing, taking vital signs, and assisting patients who visited the clinic. Now, we're more hands-on, especially in taking cases, which is very important for us. We have a target of 70 cases, which includes handling, cord care, IV insertion, suturing, and IE. These are necessary to complete before we graduate, as the PRC will look for them when we take the board exam.
That's why I'm working hard to learn as much as I can, because it's not easy. Some people say it's simple, just assisting in childbirth, but they're wrong. A midwife has a lot of responsibilities; you're holding someone's life in your hands, and one mistake can lead to legal trouble and loss of license. That's the life of a midwife. As a student midwife, I'm striving to learn everything I can for the future. But I don't worry too much because God always guides me. We just need to trust and believe in Him; nothing is impossible with God if we prioritize Him in our lives.
During the IV insertion demonstration, my hands shook terribly, even before I inserted the needle. My partner was a classmate, and it was our first time injecting, so we were both very nervous. My hands were shaking so much! I can laugh about it now, but at the time, it was nerve-wracking. It looks easy to watch, but when you're actually handling it, it's a different story. I was afraid of making a mistake and hurting my classmate. But it went well in the end, thanks be to God for His guidance and wisdom.
Hospital duty is different; the procedures are unlike those in the clinic. In the hospital, everything is more advanced, and as a student, you don't know much yet, you're still learning. I wonder why this nervousness never goes away every time I'm on duty. I feel like I can't handle it sometimes, but thank God, He guides me. There were times I thought of quitting because of the many problems I faced, but God remained, giving me strength. That's how I've overcome the years of my schooling. It's been a difficult journey, but God never abandoned me, especially when it came to finances; He provided.
Without God's help, I couldn't overcome my problems. As humans, we experience worry and fear about whether we can handle our difficulties, but God is always there for us. Without Him, we couldn't do any of this.
As a student, I encourage everyone, even when facing problems like lack of money or other difficulties, not to give up. Remember that God is with us. There were times I cried because of financial struggles, especially when tuition was due and exams were coming up. I'd cry in secret, not wanting others to see my distress. It made me wonder if I should just work instead of studying, but I really wanted the college experience. So, I keep going, pushing through everything to achieve my goals, and always remembering God. I include Him in my plans so that everything will succeed according to His will.Writing this has made me happy because it allows me to reflect on God's goodness in my life as a college student.
My hobbies include playing instruments and singing for the Lord. When I'm bored, I play my instrument, especially when I'm with my churchmates; I play the piano, guitar while they sing. I also love driving my motorcycle and going on road trips because it helps me avoid boredom, especially since I'm often alone at home. I enjoy motorcycling, even though it's dangerous, because it makes me happy, especially when I'm with my brothers on a road trip.
I also enjoy playing volleyball and badminton, even though I'm sometimes clumsy. I still enjoy it though; it helps me avoid boredom.
I also enjoy cooking. During my senior high years, I started making sponge cakes and bread, and that's when I developed a passion for baking cakes. It's a way for me to express my feelings through my creations.
