8:30 AM, Tashkent.
We barely stepped out of the taxi, and the smells hit us hard: shashlik, fresh samsa, and something sweet like someone spilled honey into the air. Welcome to Chorsu โ the cityโs oldest market, where trade has been going on since the 10th century, and your appetite wakes up on its own.
๐ What does Chorsu look like?
- Giant dome made of concrete and sunshine.
- Two floors of food, spices, and chaos.
- Crowds, but not tourists โ locals who know where the best plov is.

๐ What we bought on the second floor
Mom went full โgotta bring it all homeโ mode:
- Samarkand pistachios โ 3 kg
- Honey-glazed almonds โ 1 kg
- Dried apricots โ another 2 kg
The seller Abdulla (weโre already on a first-name basis) gave us a 20% discount and treated us to tea. He said: "For guests โ always a discount." โ

๐ฏ Chorsu life hacks
- Come hungry โ food is 3x cheaper than in cafรฉs.
- Haggle โ but with a smile.
- Bring small change โ cards arenโt accepted everywhere.
- Donโt photograph people without permission โ but if you ask, theyโll let you try everything for free ๐
Day summary:
- Walked: 4 km around the market
- Eaten: 3 types of plov + 2 flatbreads
- Bought: 6 kg of nuts & dried fruits
- Gained: +2 kg on the belly ๐
