Chorsu in Tashkent: Day 2, when your stomach takes the lead ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ”ฅ

in Photography Lovers โ€ข 2 months ago (edited)

Hey everyone from Uzbekistan! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฟ
8:30 AM, Tashkent.
We barely stepped out of the taxi, and the smells hit us hard: shashlik, fresh samsa, and something sweet like someone spilled honey into the air. Welcome to Chorsu โ€” the cityโ€™s oldest market, where trade has been going on since the 10th century, and your appetite wakes up on its own.

๐Ÿ› What does Chorsu look like?

  • Giant dome made of concrete and sunshine.
  • Two floors of food, spices, and chaos.
  • Crowds, but not tourists โ€” locals who know where the best plov is.

๐Ÿด Food stalls: what we devoured

DishVibePrice (UZS)
Lamb shashlikJuicy, fat dripping down your hands ๐Ÿ”ฅ25,000
Plov with chickpeas & raisinsRice soaked in oil, just right30,000
Pumpkin samsaSweet-salty explosion ๐Ÿคฏ8,000
Uzbek flatbreadBEST BREAD OF MY LIFE. Thin crust, soft inside, smells like childhood.5,000

I ate the flatbread with my hands, tearing off chunks. Photos canโ€™t capture it, but trust me: this isnโ€™t bread, itโ€™s art. ๐Ÿ˜‹

๐Ÿ› What we bought on the second floor

Mom went full โ€œgotta bring it all homeโ€ mode:

  • Samarkand pistachios โ€“ 3 kg
  • Honey-glazed almonds โ€“ 1 kg
  • Dried apricots โ€“ another 2 kg

The seller Abdulla (weโ€™re already on a first-name basis) gave us a 20% discount and treated us to tea. He said: "For guests โ€” always a discount." โ˜•

๐ŸŽฏ Chorsu life hacks

  1. Come hungry โ€” food is 3x cheaper than in cafรฉs.
  2. Haggle โ€” but with a smile.
  3. Bring small change โ€” cards arenโ€™t accepted everywhere.
  4. Donโ€™t photograph people without permission โ€” but if you ask, theyโ€™ll let you try everything for free ๐Ÿ˜

Day summary:

  • Walked: 4 km around the market
  • Eaten: 3 types of plov + 2 flatbreads
  • Bought: 6 kg of nuts & dried fruits
  • Gained: +2 kg on the belly ๐Ÿ˜‚

P.S. Tomorrow โ€” Tashkent Central Park! Follow so you donโ€™t miss it! ๐Ÿš‡

This region sure loves a good pomegranate themed anything

Oh yeah, I've seen pomegranate juicers everywhere. Incidentally, the pomegranate here is the most delicious. It's not as sweet as the Indian pomegranate, but I like the tartness better!
