Garden Time!

in Actifit2 months ago

Posting a quick weekend adventure to celebrate the weekend of garden prep and another 10k steps.

Starting with this neat perspective shot at our favourite local garden store.

A very short while ago, this is what the garden looked like coming out of a long winter.

I had my hands full this past weekend cleaning up from winter and working to prepare the garden beds for this years growth.

Though the weekend was cool (daytime high of 14 Celsius,) it turned out to be perfect with no punishing heat, dry enough to work, and mercifully mosquito free!

I started with the inaugural mowing of the lawn and culling of the tall bamboo grass from last year.

Weeding and tidying of the garden boxes in prep for the real work.

Then, Saturday’s work came to an end when a storm blew through and the skies opened up.

Sunday, however, it was on! After a visit to the garden store for soil and fertilizer, I chopped the first foot of dirt up with this shovel which finally gave up its handle after a couple decades of work.

Then, it was time to mix in the triple mix which is a combination of black earth, composted manure, and straight compost material.

Another classic tool that has obviously been in the family a couple generations, this hoe did the trick again this year.

While working, I couldn’t help but pause and see the signs of spring all around. I think this is a black parrot tulip.

We have a few robins nests scattered across the property and I poked my camera in one when mom was away to see if there were any eggs!

At the end of Mothers Day, I had the garden ready for my better half as a gift rather than flowers that would wilt. Now onto next weekend where hopefully the frost warning will be gone and we can plant our tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash and other assorted veggies & greens.

Thanks for joining my weekend work as the official Gardenhive season has begun up here!

What a mess with those bamboo... Lovely flowers though

The bamboo like grass is actually not too bad. Plus I can use it to weave trellises for the garden. So lush and tall in the summer too.

Soon you will have a lovely garden once more, until nature takes it back :)
Great flower shots methinks.

4 full months of garden before I have to think about that. I have some great flowers that come up every year.

Sometimes, I don’t even remember planting them and they appear!

That angle of the garden store creates the vibe for what’s ahead this season ;)

Such a great place with the moist oxygen rich air and all the plants to take home to the garden!
