A Very Ordinary Ramadan Weekend - My Actifit Report Card: March 7 2026

in Actifit9 days ago

It’s been a while since I last posted an Actifit report. Well, it’s Ramadan and we’re fasting, so it feels better to conserve energy during the day.

Ramadan in Indonesia is actually a lot of fun. On the island of Java, there’s a tradition of going out to look for snacks before breaking the fast. It’s called ngabuburit.

During ngabuburit, the streets get really crowded with people searching for sweet treats and traditional snacks. It gets so busy that we even jokingly call it the takjil war.

This afternoon I took a short walk around my apartment complex. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to take any photos because it was just too crowded.

So instead, I ended up taking a photo of my food at a warteg. Warteg is short for Warung Tegal. Tegal is an area on the northern coast of Java. If you ever visit Java, a warteg is a great place to eat. It's tasty, authentic, and affordable. And yes, in Indonesia we really love shortening names and terms.

Some dishes you’ll commonly find at a warteg are ikan kembung and orek tempe. Delicious and inexpensive.

Anyway, I managed to walk a few thousand steps today while looking for takjil and grabbing a meal at a warteg. Just a very ordinary weekend.
