RE: Homemade İskender, quite easy and affordable (Tr-En)

in Hive Türkiyelast month

Impossible to buy, honestly.

True but in here we are trying to be cheap as well. Of course, if I make it at home, it will be better but this is the situation for now.

But there is no wiki on Iskender Efendi (the creator) nor his family, who keeps the tradition alive?

I don't know who is writing these but this is not the important part I believe. Because I know that if it is done by someone else, these kind of records, the family will start to think they are the one and only entitled ones. It is a national treasure rather than just one family.

25$ for Iskender hurts, but I'd pay more if the lambs were locally raised,...

There are some places do this but I bet not much in Istanbul. Maybe a bit more rural areas.

Thank you for the precious comment!

I understand what you are saying.

But here is a spagetthi comparison again: Everybody knows Spagetthi Alfredo. Now imagine Alfredo's grandson was still making the same pasta somewhere in Rome, Italy, following his great grandfather's recipe, using the original local ingredients.
From the Alfredo-wiki:

Lelio's fame and success grew (he was knighted by the King of Italy, making him a Cavaliere dell'Ordine della Corona d'Italia)

He became a knight for cooking pasta 🤣 ONLY IN ITALY

Anyways...

I once saw a whole documentary on Iskender Efendi and the family business and they came across as quite humble, anyways.

The creator of a dish that you classify as 'national treasure' deserves their own wiki-page, I think.
