Here is my participation in BeerSaturday 467 with, for once, a beer not coming from Quebec, it is the Marie brewed by Hill Farmstead Brewery in Vermont in the United States. A friend brought me this can during his weekend in the region. Beautiful gift from one of the most respected traditional breweries in North America. This is the first time I've tasted one of their beers. I can’t wait 😀...
Voici ma participation au BeerSaturday 467 avec, pour une fois, une bière ne venant pas du Québec, il s'agit de la Marie brassée par Hill Farmstead Brewery dans le Vermont aux Etats-Unis. C'est un ami qui m'a ramenée cette canette lors d'un weekend dans la région. Beau cadeau de l'une des brasseries traditionnelles les plus respectées en Amérique du Nord. C'est la première que je goute une de leur bière. Je suis impatient 😀...
We're not in Quebec this week, nor in Canada. We crossed “the lines” as shown in the map below. Hill Farmstead Brewery is located in the village of Greensboro Bend in Vermont. The photos on their website really make you want to visit their facility and grab a few pints at their tap room.
Nous ne sommes pas au Québec cette semaine, ni au Canada. On a traversé "les lignes" comme le montre la carte ci-dessous. La brasserie Hill Farmstead Brewery se situe dans le village de Greensboro Bend au Vermont. Les photos de leur site internet font vraiment envie de visiter leur installation et prendre quelques pintes à leur tap room.

My friend who brought me this can told me that it is one of the best breweries in North America. I didn't know, always cool to discover new beers especially from such a respected brewery. For the record, the brewery was founded in 2010 by Shaun Hill in Greensboro Bend whose family has been in the area for 8 generations 😲. He learned to brew early in high school and then started a brewing club during college. Now, Hill Farmstead is considered one of the best craft breweries in the world, known (new to me 😀) for its craft beers, small batches, traditional methods and experimental styles.
Mon ami qui m'a ramené cette canette m'a dit que est une des meilleures brasseries en Amérique du Nord. Je ne connaissais pas, toujours cool de découvrir de nouvelles bières surtout d'une brasserie aussi respectée. Pour l'histoire, la brasserie a été fondée en 2010 par Shaun Hill à Greensboro Bend dont la famille est installé dans la région depuis 8 générations 😲. Il a appris à brasser très tôt au lycée puis en fondant un club de brassage pendant l'université. Maintenant, Hill Farmstead est considérée comme l'une des meilleures brasseries artisanales du monde, connue (nouveau pour moi 😀) pour ses bières artisanales, petits batches, méthodes traditionnelles et styles expérimentaux.
🍺 Tasting / Dégustation :
Marie is an unfiltered Helles Lager, a classic German style. In the glass, we find the golden and clear color of this type of beer. On the other hand, it is transparent, I would have expected something murkier. The white foam disappears quite quickly.
La Marie est une Helles Lager non filtrée, un style allemand classique. Dans le verre, on retrouve la robe dorée et claire de ce type de bière. Par contre, elle est transparente, je me serais attendu à quelque chose de plus trouble. La mousse blanche disparait assez rapidement.
In the mouth, I find it quite crisp and sparkling. I was expecting more roundness but as it was hot and humid in Montreal its fresh side came out well. I'm not complaining, a refreshing beer is what I needed to get through this day. To taste, we have a bread flavor with a slight touch of honey. It's really a very good beer. It makes me want to take a trip to Vermont.
En bouche, je la trouve assez croustillante et pétillante. Je m'attendais à plus de rondeur mais comme il faisait chaud et humide à Montréal son côté frais est bien ressorti. Je ne me plains pas, une bière rafraichissante c'est ce qu'il fallait pour passer au travers de cette journée. Au gout, on a une saveur de pain avec une légère touche de miel. C'est vraiment une très bonne bière. Cela donne envie d'aller faire un tour au Vermont.
Design
The design of Hill Farmstead Brewery is quite simple with the logo up front. For history, this is a sign that once hung at Aaron Hill's tavern (the ancestor of the family) in the early 1800s. Cool to have been able to preserve the history of the family. On the back we find a long text about Marie aka Marie-Ange (1907-1996), the great-grandmother on my mother's side who came from Quebec. I told myself that this beer had a Quebec touch 😀.
Le design de Hill Farmstead Brewery est assez simple avec le logo en avant. Pour l'histoire, il s'agit d'une enseigne qui autrefois pendait à la taverne d'Aaron Hill (l'ancètre de la famille) au début des années 1800. Cool d'avoir su conserver l'histoire de la famille. Au dos on retrouve un long texte sur Marie aka Marie-Ange (1907-1996), l'arrière grand-mère côté maternel qui venait du Québec. Je me disais que cette bière avait une touche québécoise 😀.
