Here's my entry for BeerSaturday 451 hosted by @detlev with the NEIPA from Shelton brewery. With that name, there's no ambiguity about what's in the can. Since it's the kind of beer I like to drink in winter, its color makes you feel like the sun that's missing from the sky is in my glass 😀 Although, these past few days in Montreal, the sky has been blue with beautiful sunshine. It's good for the soul.
Voici ma participation au BeerSaturday 451 avec la NEIPA par la brasserie Shelton. Avec ce nom, il n'y a aucune ambigueté sur ce contient cette canette. Comme c'est le genre de bière que j'aime boire en hiver, grâce à cette couleur, on peut croire que le soleil qui manque dans le ciel se retrouve dans le verre. Bien que ces derniers jours sur Montréal, le ciel est bleu avec un beau soleil. Cela fait du bien au moral.

*Shelton Brewery **https://biererieshelton.com/ was founded in 2017 by Darryl Shelton and his wife Maude Bergeron. Darryl had been brewing at home for several years as a hobby, winning numerous awards, which encouraged him to start his own business. In 2023, the brewery moved its equipment to Saint-Mathieu-de-Beloeil on Montreal's South Shore.
La brasserie Shelton a été fondée en 2017 par Darryl Shelton et sa conjointe Maude Bergeron. Cela faisait déjà plusieurs années que Darryl brassait par passion chez lui, et remportant plusieurs prix ce qui l'a poussé à se lancer en affaire. En 2023, la brasserie installe ses équipements à Saint-Mathieu-de-Beloeil sur la Rive-Sud de Montréal.

🍺 Tasting / Dégustation :
The Shelton NEIPA is a New England India Pale Ale with 7.5% ABV, hopped with six different varieties: Amarillo, Columbus, Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe, and Azacca. It's an original blend with fruity hops like Citra, Mosaic, and Azacca, along with the more resinous Columbus and Simcoe.
In the glass, it has a hazy, milky appearance with a beautiful ripe mango color, topped with a compact, white head.
On the palate, the first sip reveals flavors of pineapple and mango, which is not surprising given the hops used. However, it's less velvety than typical NEIPAs, perhaps due to the high alcohol content and the use of traditional, resinous hops. Ultimately, it feels like a hybrid NEIPA; it retains the hazy appearance and fruity aromas of the style, but with a drier, more resinous structure. Interesting.
La Shelton NEIPA est New England India Pale Ale avec 7.5% d'alcool houblonnée avec 6 différentes variétés : Amarillo, Columbus, Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe et Azacca. C'est un mélange original avec des houblons fruités comme Citra, Mosaic, Azacca avec des houblons plus résineux Columbus, Simcoe.
Dans le verre, on a unerobe trouble et laiteuse avec une belle couleur de mangue bien mûre surmontée d'une mousse compacte et blanche.
En bouche, la première gorgée fait ressentir des saveux d'ananas et de mangue, pas étonnant avec les houblons utilisés. Par contre, c'est moins velouté que les NEIPA habituelles, peut-être à cause du haut taux d'alcool et aussi des houblons traditionnels et résineux. Au final, cela semble une NEIPA hybride, elle garde l'apparence trouble et les arômes fruités du style, mais avec cette structure plus sèche et résineuse. Intéressante.
Design
To kick off the weekend, I wanted to enjoy a quiet NEIPA. While browsing in my local beer store, I stumbled upon a selection of brightly colored cans that contrasted sharply with the gray winter weather in Montreal. And this NEIPA was among them. I'm not a fan of the design, but it's true that the Shelton cans really stand out on the shelves.
Pour bien commencer ce weekend, je voulais boire tranquille une NEIPA. En cherchant dans mon magasin de bière, je suis tombé sur une série de canette aux couleurs vives qui font contraste avec la grisaille hivernale à Montréal. Et il y avait cette NEIPA dans le lot. Je ne suis pas fan du design mais il est vrai que les canettes de Shelton ressortent très bien sur les tablettes.
