My Beer in Malaysia - The #BeerSaturday Challenge Week 433 / マレーシアでのビールライフ

Yesterday we flew from Kuala Lumpur to Munich and safely arrived back in Germany. Since we landed at night and were too tired to continue on to Leipzig by train, we decided to stay overnight at a hotel near the Munich airport. I had taken several naps on the plane, and with the time difference, I ended up waking up around 4 a.m. 😅 My daughter woke up too, so we went down to the hotel café together, and I decided to write a blog post ... without a glass of beer 😉

I thought it's good to post about beer I had in Malaysia while still I have the hot vacation days feeling. By the way, can you believe Beer Saturday has already reached Week 433? It feels like just recently we celebrated its 400th week! Big thanks to @detlev for hosting Beer Saturday every week. (Speaking of detlev, at Hive Fest he was not only hosting Beer Saturday but also moderating panel discussions and presenting World Mappin 👏)

The #BeerSaturday Challenge - Week 433

I knew Malaysia would be hot, but it was even warmer than I expected — I was sweating every day, which made the beer taste extra good! This summer in Germany felt like “where did summer go?” so thanks to Hive Fest, I could catch and enjoy summer beers.

The first one was during the first half of our trip, at the beachside bar of the Shangri-La Hotel in Penang. My partner found a happy hour half-price offer, and we ended up discovering a great spot for a drink. There wasn’t any Malaysian local beer on the menu, so I ordered a Tiger Beer from Singapore.

Since my family doesn’t drink, I had a few alcohol-free days afterward. My next beer was at the networking party on the second conference day at @ChainCulture — again, a Tiger Beer. Refreshing, crisp, with a slight bitterness — a perfect tropical beer.

After that, drinking beer became almost a daily ritual. I had beer again next day at the Beer Saturday Meetup — and yes, once more, Tiger Beer 😁 In the photo I looked like a startled animal, so here’s one with my beer and the Beer Saturday sign.

And, of course, I ordered beer at the Hive Fest's farewell dinner. There were plenty of drink options throughout the stay, but in Malaysia with the heat, humidity, and all the sweet, spicy, and richly seasoned dishes, I have to say — nothing pairs better than beer 🍻 Even than fancy cocktails at skyscraper bars.

Now that I’m back in Germany, it already feels so cold… Maybe I’ll switch things up and post about dark beers and German dishes this autumn and winter ☺️

昨日クアラルンプールからミュンヘンに飛んで、無事ドイツにつきました。夜の到着でライプツィヒまで電車で帰るのはしんどそうだったので、ミュンヘンの空港に近いホテルで一泊。飛行機の中で昼寝をしまくり、時差があり、4時ごろ起きてしまいました 😅 子供も起きてしまい、二人でホテルのカフェに出てきて、ブログを書くことにしました。

まだ南国気分な今のうちに、Beer Saturdayの投稿を久しぶりに。それにしても、ついこの前Beer Saturdayが400回目!と思ったらもう433週目なんですね。毎週Beer Saturdayを開催してくれている @detlev さんに感謝です(detlev さんといえば FestではBeer Saturdayはもちろん、パネルディスカッションのモデレーターとして活躍、登壇してWorld Mappinも紹介されていました!)。

マレーシアは暑いだろうなとは思っていましたが、思っていた以上に日々汗をかいて、ビールがとてもおいしかったです。ドイツは今年は夏はどこへ!?という感じだったので、Hive Festのおかげで夏ビールを楽しめてうれしかったです。

一杯目は旅の前半で訪れたペナン島のシャングリラホテルのビーチサイドのバーで。相方がハッピーアワーの半額オファーを見つけてきて、思わずいい場所と出会って一杯。マレーシアのローカルビールはメニューになく、シンガポールのタイガービールにしました。

私の家族は飲まないので、このあと数日ノンアルデーが続いて、次のビールはカンファレンスデー2日目のChain Cultureのネットワーキングパーティーにて。またもやタイガービールでした。すっきりさっぱり、ちょっと苦味のある南国ビールがおいしかったです。

ここから連日のようにビールを飲んでいて、土曜日のビアサタデーミートアップではもちろんビール。そしてまたタイガー!おいしいからよいです。全身写してもらったのですが、カメラにびっくりした動物みたいな顔になっていて、ビールとビアサタデーの看板で。

最終日のディナーももちろんビール。滞在中いろいろな飲み物の選択肢があったのですが、やっぱりこの気温と湿度、甘辛、スパイスが効いた味付けの多い料理とはビールが一番合っていると思いました。

さてさて、ドイツに戻ってきたらやっぱり寒い・・・ということで、秋冬は時々黒ビールとドイツ料理の投稿ができたらいいななんて考えています。
