I walked into Jollibee and ordered my favorite: a Super Meal. Two cups of rice, sweet-style spaghetti, crispy fried chicken, and a refreshing iced tea. Simple, familiar, and comforting. There’s something about Jollibee that feels like home no matter how old you get or where life takes you, it stays the same. And maybe that’s why it felt like the perfect place to welcome 2026.

I chose a seat near the side, not too crowded, just enough to observe life happening around me. On the other side of my seat was a group of kids playing cards. They were laughing loudly, teasing each other, completely lost in their little game. Watching them brought a soft smile to my face. Their joy was pure and uncomplicated no worries about the future, no overthinking, just being present in the moment.
As I ate my meal, I reflected on the year that passed. The struggles, the lessons, the growth. Being alone didn’t feel lonely at all. In fact, it felt grounding. I realized how rare it is to intentionally spend time with yourself without distractions. No phone scrolling endlessly, no rushing just eating slowly, observing, and breathing.
This solo date reminded me that it’s okay to enjoy your own company. That self-love doesn’t always have to be loud or aesthetic it can be as simple as sitting alone in a fast-food restaurant, enjoying a warm meal, and letting your thoughts settle.
The kids beside me eventually left, still laughing as they walked out. I finished my iced tea, wiped my hands, and sat there for a few more minutes, feeling calm and ready. Ready for whatever this year has to offer. Starting 2026 with a solo date taught me something important: before giving your energy to the world, make sure you give some of it to yourself. And if that means chicken, spaghetti, and rice at Jollibee then that’s perfectly okay.
Here’s to more intentional moments, small joys, and choosing yourself this year.
