Learning a skill in a contemporary world like ours is a necessity. There are a lot of people out there without special skills (that’s what they think) and there are some with obvious skills. Most of the time, we don’t even know we are skilled in some things. We look at some skills as common or not even skills at all until one day when we will be made to realize just how important it is. Building a skill can be both easy and difficult but it all depends on one’s interest and method of learning that skill and even the person who teaches that particular skill.
For this week's hive learners topic edition 2, we are asked to share a skill we will like to learn within a month if everything needed is made available. Personally, I already have a particular skill but I don’t think it is a skill I want to improve on with this kind of opportunity. It is stressful and not really worth the stress but as often as I get the opportunity, I try to give it my best.
One skill that I believe I’ll be able to learn within a month is cooking. I’m not a great cook, yet. But I love it when I cook. I remember back when I was little, I’d always stand close to my dad when he was cooking to learn how he does it so I can also start helping out in that regards knowing he had a very stressful job. I was literally always interested whenever I see people cook back then. And that was how I grew this love for cooking. Having a one month opportunity to learn a skill, it would be really nice to improve more on my cooking skill.
Right now, the only food I can boast about being a master of is palm oil rice (some call it native rice). This rice is made with palm oil and few other ingredients or as many other ingredients as you want. It was actually the first food I learned how to cook and ever since then, I have always enjoyed cooking and eating it. More than 80% of the people that have tasted my palm oil rice always asked for more and I think that’s a prove that I’m talented in preparing that particular food but then, it will be nice to have more mastery in other dishes which is why I have chosen cooking.
I believe one month will be a good time to master how to cook varieties of foods both the ones in my country and maybe a few from other countries. I believe cooking is a way of sharing love. It always gives me great satisfaction whenever I take my time to cook and it comes out really nice. That is actually the only time I enjoy sharing my food with others, not to boast though but just a conscience thing. I can’t give people poison to eat. I want it that whenever people eat food, they will feel nourished and happy.
Eating a meal that doesn’t taste good can even ruin one’s mood. I respect the kitchen a lot and if I’m not skilled at preparing a particular dish, I don’t really like opting to preparing that food. I will rather prepare something that I know I can cook very well and everyone will enjoy it. Even though we’ve eaten that meal a lot of times in the previous days or weeks. And actually, that is one reason I’d love to use an opportunity like this one to improve on my cooking skills so I don’t make people eat a particular dish for too long.
