Coffee with the Dead??

While visiting the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset, UK we called in at the Scott Arms in the lovely village of Kingston. We'd had a good walk with the pooch so now was the time to treat ourselves.

There was a nice beer garden in the back. The unusual thing about it was the gravestone of Michael Henchard situated next to one of the picnic tables. Were we literally dining with the dead?? We found out from another customer that it was actually a tv prop that was accidentally left behind when filming a tv programme had finished. I do like a graveyard but this was a bit too close for comfort. It was definitely a conversation piece.

We settled down at a table with stunning views over the countryside. In the very distance was the ruins of Corfe Castle.

We ordered a black Americano with a ploughman's lunch and egg and chips. As it was a lovely sunny day, it was good to have a nice healthy salad.

The pooch ordered some water. In fact, he walked straight past this bowl of water when we first entered the beer garden. He just wouldn't touch it. After we sat down, I went back to retrieve the water for him and he wolfed it down. I think he just wanted to be waited on. Dogs can be so fickle.

The venue has had mixed reviews lately, but we enjoyed it. It was a little pricey but that's usual in the south of England. We paid the bill, paid our respects to "Michael Henchard" and left. 😁

Thank you. 🙏

I love your click-bait blog title. I had to figure out what that was about! That’s pretty funny about the gravestone being a prop. And how cute that your dog wants to be waited on. That made me smile.

Glad the title worked! 😁

IT really doesn't matter if the price is pricey so long that the food and coffee is yummy. Its worth the spend and the time.

Yes, you have to treat yourself now and again.

That gravestone prop adds a whole new twist to atmospheric dining. The stunning countryside views, the tasty food and your pooch’s acting like he deserved VIP service, a perfectly quirky and enjoyable outing.

Only the best for the pooch. 🙂

Lucky pup!🤗

Really a deadly coffe by the way I hear now it's quite a trend opening coffee close to the cemeteries 😆 a different kind of business

It's unique that's for sure. 😁

Dogs can be so fickle.

After all, he is labby...😅

They definitely beat to their own drum. He can fetch it himself next time. 😄

Haha this was such a fun read.

Honestly, the gravestone story had me grinning… I guess it’s only in England would a TV prop end up as a permanent feature in a pub garden! 😂 The food sounds proper comforting too, and I had to laugh at your pooch wanting table service. That is classic dog behavior. Sounds like a memorable stop, even with the slightly spooky dining companion.

Thank you @teknon. It was definitely one to tell your grandchildren .... if I had any. 😁
