Hello dear friends, I hope you are all doing well. It's already December, so the Christmas creations are sure to continue. I haven't yet felt inspired to make anything with a Christmas theme, but I hope to soon. However, yesterday and today I've been working with wood, making a very small piece that I want to share with you. I've made a keychain whose central figure is the famous shoe of Michael Jordan, the greatest basketball player of all time. It's the Air Jordan 1, the model that started a new era in the NBA and in sports in general. Considered a classic today, available in every color, it wasn't always like that. Jordan had to pay a fine to play in them because the shoes didn't meet the official colors. The fine was covered by Nike, who believed in Jordan and what he represented, and they were right. Well, I made this piece from a piece of wood, doing a very small but detailed carving, and then I painted it the classic color. Next, I will briefly describe the process; I hope you enjoy it.
Hola queridos amigos, espero que todos se encuentren muy bien, ya estamos en diciembre así que las creaciones navideñas seguro que no se detienen, aun no me he inspirado para hacer algo con el tema navideño, pero espero hacerlo pronto. Sin embargo, el día de ayer y hoy estuve trabajando especialmente con madera haciendo una pieza muy pequeña que quiero compartir con ustedes. He realizado un llavero cuya figura central es el famoso zapato de Michael Jordan, el mejor jugador de basket de todos los tiempos, se trata de las Air Jordan 1, el modelo que inició una nueva era en la NBA y en el deporte en general. Considerado hoy un clásico, que sale en todos los colores, en sus inicios no fue así, Jordan para poder jugar con ellos debía pagar una multa, ya que el calzado no cumplía con los colores reglamentarios, la multa corrió pro cuenta de la Nike, quien apostó por Jordan y lo que significaba y no se equivocaron. Bueno, he realizado esta pieza en un trozo de madera haciendo un tallado muy pequeño pero detallado y al final los he pintado del color clásico. A continuación narraré de forma breve como fue el proceso, espero les guste.

I made this piece from a small piece of wood, 3 centimeters long and 2 centimeters wide. I didn't want it to be too big, but not too small either; I wanted a size where I could easily carve as many details as possible. Once I had the wood ready, I drew the outline of the shoe on both sides and cut the wood along the front edge, where the toe is.
Esta pieza la hice en un pequeño trozo de madera, de 3 centímetros y 2 centimetros de ancho, no quería que fuera muy grando pero tampoco muy pequeño, sino un tamabño donde se pudiera tallar sin problema la mayor cantidad de detalles. Luego de tener la madera lista lo que hice fue dibujar la silueta del zápato por ambos lados y cortar la madera por el lado del frente, por donde etsá la punta.

As I mentioned before, what I did was cut out the front part of the shoe's silhouette, so you can see how the toe has turned out. You can appreciate the shape of the shoe, although there is still a lot to be done; you could say that this is the basic shape.
Como había mencionado antes, lo que hice fue cortar la parte de la silueta del zapato por en frente, así pueden ver como ha quedado la punta, se puede apreciar la forma del zapato, aunque aun falta mucho, se podría decir que esta es la forma base.

Using sandpaper, I begin shaping the shoe to better clean the area and create new outlines with the pencil. First, I draw the sole, which protrudes significantly from the entire shoe. Once I've drawn it, I make a small cut following the pencil line. After that, I remove the cut with a small blade, exposing what will become the sole of the shoe.
Con una lija comienzo a darle forma al zapato para poder limpiar mejor la zona y hacer nuevas delimitaciones con el lápiz. Lo primero que hago es dibujar la suela la cual sobresale mucho por todo el zapato, una vez que la he dibujado lo que hago es un corte pequeño siguiendo el trazo del lápiz. Después de eso lo que hago es retirar con una cuchilla pequeña y así va quedando expuesta lo que será la suela del zapato.

Now I'm starting to work on the small details, of which there are quite a few, especially the Nike logo. Here, I redraw the outline of the Jordans, and then, along the pencil lines, I lightly score the wood with the flat blade and then use the pointed blade to start removing the wood. You can see how the shape of the logo is gradually taking shape, one of the things that caught my attention the most.
Ahora comienzo a hacer los pequeños detalles que son unos cuantos, especialmente el logo de la marca Nike. Aquí lo que hago es volver a dibujar la silueta de las Jordan, y después por todo el trazo del lápiz hundir un poco la cuchilla plana y luego con la cuchilla puntiaguda comenzar a extraer la madera. Pueden ver como va quedando poco a poco la forma del logo, una de las cosas que más llamó mi atención.

Next, I begin carving the other side of the Jordans, redrawing each detail piece by piece and cutting the wood in the same way. I also made a small cut at the toe so the sole is distinguishable from the rest of the shoe. Similarly, I made a small cut at the top, where the foot goes in.
Seguidamente comienzo a tallar el otro lado de las Jordan, vuelvo a dibujar parte por parte cada detalle y de la misma forma voy cortando la madera. En la punta también hice un pequeño corte para que se peuda diferenciar la suela del resto del zapato. Así también en la parte superior, donde entra el pie, hice un pequeño corte.

Next came the shoelaces, by far the most difficult and complicated step. First, it was tricky to draw them without taking up too much space, and second, to carve them without damaging the wood. So, after drawing them, I began carving the laces with a fine-tipped knife, one by one, step by step, following each drawn line until finished. I then sanded the entire piece and went over the most important details again.
Luego tocó el turno de hacer los cordones de los zapatos, por lejos el paso más difícil y complicado, primero fue complicado dibujarlo sin ocupar mucho espacio y segundo poder tallarlo sin estropear la madera. Así que luego de dibujarlos, con una cuchilla de punta fina comencé a tallar los cordondes, uno a uno paso a paso cada trazo dibujado hasta finalizar. Con una lija pulí toda la pieza y volví a repasar los detalles más importantes.

Now, to create a more impressive finish, I add paint. I paint the entire piece white with three coats. After that, once it's dry, I begin adding the dominant red color with a very fine brush, covering every detail.
Ahora para hacer un acabado más impresionante agrego pintura, a toda la pieza la pinto de color blanco con 3 capas de pintruas. Después de eso, una vez que ha secado comienzo a agregar el color rojo dominante con un pincel muy fino, y así cubrir cada uno de los detalles.

Then to finish I started adding the black color, in the other details like the Nike logo and the laces, then I put a metal ring at the top to attach the chain and yes it was finished.
Luego para finalizar comencé agregar el color negro, en los otros detalles como en el logo de Nike y en los cordones, después le puse un aro de metal en la parte superior de donde sujetar la cadena y sí quedó finalizado.

What do you think of the result? It wasn't an easy piece; it was very difficult, more so than I had imagined, but the result exceeded my own expectations, and I think that's what it's all about when we put our creativity to work. I hope you liked the result. I thought it would be better to make a pair of Jordans, but that would have taken more days, so this one was enough. ¿Qué les ha parecido el resultado? no fue una pieza fácil, fue muy difícil, más d elo que había imaginado, pero el reusltado super mis propias expectativas, y creo que de eso se trata cuando ponemos a trabajar la creatividad. Espero que les haya gustado el resultado, pensé que era mejor hacer el par de Jordan, pero hubiera durado más días, así que con esta fue suficiente.
