Indeed. Waves are short form contents, with word limit, while posts are long form content, no word limit. You can publish posts in any community, but waves is just here. Think of Waves like a tweet on Ecency.

Blog shows your long form and reblogged content.
Waves are short form / micro-blogging content under 250 characters.
It took me a while to grasp the differences. I just recently found Waves app!
