A man under the state of grace has “the habitual and predominant devotion and dedication of soul, and body, and life, and all that we have to God” before all the pleasures and prosperity offered by this world. He views everything in life from the perspective of the afterlife, “making this the scope, design, and business” of his life. “He turns from this world to God and prefers the Creator before the creature, and heaven before earth, and eternity before an inch of time. . .” He submits his reason to divine revelation and lives by faith, not by sight (Baxter, Christian Ethics, 1966, p. 19).
