Suppose you are writing a dystopian novel or film script. Your characters escape the Evil City, whether an underground bunker complex, a panopticon dome, or just brutalist concrete urbanism shrouded in dense smog. Which sight would be more dramatic?

Sort:

In my opinion, “the sun unobscured at last” works. I’ve read too many books with that effect and it never gets old. I still get the same dramatic feeling and intensity because it almost feels like escaping into a desert.

For the reader, I'd think the infinite stars. If it were a movie, the sun would be more dramatic.

In film, you might see the predawn glow on the horizon, then the first ray of light throwing the protagonist(s) into stark silhouette as everything bursts into vibrant color around them after an hour of almost monochromatic gray.
