Hey Hive!
We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!
We're onto another series of Twitch emotes! I've shared about my streaming journey on Twitch in multiple posts and the art I've done both for my Twitch channel and for my viewers. Earlier this year, Twitch announced that Affiliates (such as myself) would get access to many more emotes slots so I was scrambling to draw new ones to fill them for the first half of last year.
Anyway, for this new batch I wanted to make them more memey, and this next one I wanted to make a real derpy looking one since I really like derpy-looking doggos like this corgi named Shotgun:
I can't even tell you how many of such similar doggo pics I've come across online and saved. So I just had to make a derp emote too!
I found this reference that looked really good and it's basically just the expression on top of my TacoCat so I figured this would be pretty simple.
Here's my sketch:
I changed the tongue a little bit to match my cat mouth better, and after filling in the colours we get this:
I thought it looked pretty good, maybe the tongue outline could've been smoother but in the chat it'll be a lot smaller, around 56px so I figured it would be fine. I actually ended up turning this into an animated emote so that it spins in the chat, and it turned out pretty good and matched the dizzy eyes too.
For the next one I let my chat vote on a few different sketches and they chose this anime meme-y one where the camera zooms in real close when they're about to go crazy. I'm sure if you've watched any anime before you would've seen something like this:
I managed to find a pretty good reference emoji for it so it was also pretty simple.
Here's my sketch:
I had to redraw all the taco fillings for this one since the camera angle was close so I sort of needed the fillings to be tilted back, if that makes sense.
After that it was just a matter of colouring in the face and adding some shadows to emphasise the camera angle, and in the end we get this:
I thought it looked pretty good, and the gradient and shadows made it look quite accurate to the meme. My viewers really liked it too, so I'm glad.
These are pretty simple but I'm glad chat liked it. I still have quite a few sketches on the backburner that I'll hopefully get slots for in the future.
