Hi foodie lovers, I've been taking a break from Hive for a week, but it's not because I've stopped cooking. Something happened in my country, specifically in Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia. We experienced a major disaster, River water overflowed everywhere, even spreading to several districts. Road access was cut off and we were almost starving at that time. Severe flooding, power outages, and a complete loss of internet access for five days. Even today, the electricity and signal are still unstable, which has really brought our activities to a halt. Many areas were affected by the disaster, and even now, our area has not fully recovered. Yesterday, the flood reached 1.5 meters in my house. Don't ask how I was at that time. I was really scared, and this was my first experience seeing such a large flood that spread across almost all districts in the province of Aceh. The storm will eventually pass, and I sincerely hope you all pray for our brothers and sisters who have lost their lives in this disaster. I am deeply afraid, but life must go on as it should. I'm back here to share my experience of cooking various warm dishes for your family at home.
Today I will show you how to make a simple bolen recipe. Bolen is one of the most popular snacks in Indonesia. Previously, I only knew of baked banana bolen, which comes in many varieties and is served in ways that I find challenging. This time, I want to try smoked beef bolen, which I think will have a different taste. While banana bolen is synonymous with sweetness, smoked beef bolen has a savory and salty taste. It's quite simple, and for those of you who love savory bread, this is the perfect choice.

The process of making the bolen crust takes quite a bit of time and requires extra patience. Similar to making a pastry crust, the bolen crust provides a finishing layer that makes it even more delicious. The simple filling of smoked beef and a mixture of cheese and milk makes it even more delicious.
Here, I will walk you through the preparation steps.
Ingredients

50 grams of butter
20 grams of powdered sugar
200 ml of water

50 grams of butter
100 ml of cooking oil

Look at this, it's so beautiful and attractive to serve at any event. Just like savory bread, the taste is perfect for selling, and enjoying it with a cold drink at home will surely give you a different bread experience.

Its savory, salty flavor and soft, layered texture are reminiscent of the bolen sold in bakeries. I’m thrilled that my smoked beef bolen turned out perfectly. As usual, enjoy it right out of the oven while it’s still warm—it’s absolutely delicious.
