Having failed to bake kanom tuoy foo, a blooming steam muffin from Thailand, I decided to explore other recipes. In the end, I came across various chinese bread that are steam and it reminds me of Baozi or Bao buns. Though I don’t really have the filling to make a proper steamed buns, I decided to go with Mantou.
Mantaou is a basic recipe and if you love steamed bread, this is the perfect recipe for you. It doesn’t require an oven and is definitely affordable as I read. In northern China, apparently mantou is a staple food.

Do you like Mantaou?
Usually these steamed buns are sold frozen. It's a very popular snack where I am from but those frozen ones contain more than just 3-4 ingredients added. It’s also easy to make, so why not make it ourselves?
Also, if you’re someone like me who doesn’t really eat rice, this is a great alternative to rustic bread that I often make. Since they also require less oil and fat to make it which is great if you’re trying to eat a bit healthier.
Oh and this is a recipe that doesn’t require an oven. So, you’re good to go, as I often commented that the oven is the great barrier to baking. Hope you get to try this one.
