What a beautiful weekend! I'm always grateful for the beauty around me. Especially the condition of my garden in the free housing development I'm currently working on.
Because my garden is much larger than my front yard, it took me some time to get it filled with a variety of plants. But what I want to focus on this time is the beauty of the zinnia flowers.

Look at the zinnia flowers blooming. The seeds I scattered have turned into colorful flowers. So, I took inspiration from these blooming flowers to make a steamed sponge cake.
Blooming steamed sponge cake. In Indonesia, this cake is very popular. It comes in many variations. Children also love this steamed sponge cake because of its attractive colors.
This sponge cake is named blooming steamed sponge cake because the top of the cake looks like it's blooming flower petals! Let me show you how to make this blooming steamed sponge cake.
The essential thing to have in the kitchen before making this blooming steamed sponge cake is a cake mold. The ones with holes. Also, a baking paper liner. So, I bought these supplies a few days ago.
Well, this is my first time making Blooming Steamed Sponge Cake in this rented house because I just got the supplies for this cake.

THE INGREDIENTS
- 500 grams all-purpose flour
- 450 grams of sugar
- 4 egg yolks
- 400 ml of coconut milk
- 400 ml of vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
- enough food coloring
COOKING INSTRUCTIONS
I prepared a large bowl. Next, I separated the egg yolks and egg whites, as I only needed the yolks for this recipe.
In the bowl, I added 4 egg yolks, sugar, and vanilla essence. Then, I stirred them using only a balloon whisk.
Then, gradually add the coconut milk to the egg yolk and sugar mixture. Stir well until the mixture becomes frothy.
Once the mixture is well combined and no lumps of sugar are visible, gradually add the sifted sugar to make it easier to mix all the ingredients. Don't forget to also add the salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
I then added the vegetable oil to the mixture that was already well combined. Stir well with a spatula until it forms a thick cake batter.
Then, I divided the mixture into three parts: one for the base color, one for the green color, and one for the red color. But you can use any color you want, and any flavor you like can add an attractive color to the final steamed sponge cake.
While I was preparing the batter in the molds, I heated the steamer. Make sure the steamer is hot and ready so the steamed sponge cakes will rise successfully.
I poured the batter into molds measuring about 6 cm. I added the three colors alternately to create a gradient. I used random layers.
My steamer can only steam 6 sponge cakes at a time. We mustn't let them stick together, as they will expand during the steaming process.
I then steamed the sponge cakes for 15 minutes over high heat. High heat is essential for the cakes to rise beautifully.
After 15 minutes, I immediately removed the cakes from the molds so they would stay fluffy until they cooled.
THE RESULTS
Look at the results. I squealed with delight when the cakes rose perfectly! Why was I so happy? Because it's quite tricky. If there's a mistake in any step, the steamed cakes won't rise.
Have you ever seen this beautiful steamed cake? In fact, this type of cake can really help family members enjoy sweet treats even without an oven or mixer. Great!
