Hello everyone my name is Ovey Charles with username @ovipraise. Today I’ll like to share with you my cultural food. Food which I love eating. It is called EBEKME.
I am Eggon by tribe and am proud to be one. The name Ovey is a tribal name meaning “Thanks” an expression of appreciation.
The tribe Eggon is one of the major tribe in Nasarawa state Nigeria. They are found in almost all the Local Government Area in the state. The culture is unique and before a bride taken by the groom, the food must be presented before it is considered as legal marriage and that food is called Ebekme.

Ebekme is a food that is prepared with butter beans, beanie seed and palm oil. I love this food such that I can’t help but to eat it once in a while not necessary at wedding. The food is prepared first by coking the beans which normally last for hours and making sure that it is well cooked. The beanie seed (Black) is fried and taken to grinding machine to be grinded into powder form. The grinded beanie seed is the mixed with the Cooked butter beans after which palm oil is used to mixed it much more. With this the food is set to be served. Some love it with little salt however culturally it is prepared with out salt.

Growing up I have grown to love this food and eat it very well. I am proud to be part of this tribe and am in love with this cultural food. The food has a significant value because without which bride can not be given out to the bride. It also accampanied by a very big pig for the ucles as tradition demands.
