Cooking Beans With Ripe And Unripe Plantains For Myself And My Brother

in Food & Culture2 days ago

Good afternoon members of the food and culture community. I'm so excited to find out this morning that this community exists on Hive. So I decided to make a post here today.

I welcome you all to my blog. It's my first time posting in this great community, and I hope I'm welcome

I'm @joyben, A Nigerian, a Linguist, a lover of food and culture. I was born into a family where everyone cooks, no matter their position in the family.

My father himself is a great cook, as well as my mom. So what exactly did you expect their daughter to do?

Well, I decided to follow their footprint. I cook a lot, and as a lady, it's always my duty to cook. I must say that I enjoy cooking a lot, because that's the only time I will get to know how prepared I am to become a good wife.

There's nothing as sweet as being able to feed yourself and your family with good meals. Good meal, they say, nourishes the body, and that's one thing I learnt about cooking and eating good food.

Last night, my elder brother came back from work, and he told me he wants to eat beans mixed with unripe and ripe plantain. So he gave me money to go out at night and purchase them.

So when I returned, I asked him if I would be cooking it that night, and he said no because it was past 10 pt.

He told me I should get up by 5 a.m. and prepare it. So immediately it was 5 a.m., I got up from bed, and I entered the kitchen because he wanted to leave for work by 7a.m.

What I prepared were beans with unripe plantains and ripe plantains. I'm sorry because I do not have step-by-step photos here. By that time, everywhere was dark, so I used my reading lamp to do the cooking.

I only have the photo of the food I prepared because by then I could see clearly.

Beans are one of the dishes loved by me and my family. Plantains are not an exception. Each time I cooked that food, I always felt satisfied.

The first thing I did was to select the beans properly. I poured them into a rubber, then I washed them, before boiling them. I also filtered them before putting them back into the pot.

I used pepper, Maggi, palm oil, onions, salt, crayfish, etc to prepare. Believe me, it came out well.
For those plantains, I sliced the unripe ones small, then I made the ripe ones rounded so they won't become softer easily.

Beans are said to give us protein, and guess what! Our body needs protein, and that's why everyone in my family loves it. It is believed to make a child grow faster.

So immediately I finished my cooking, I brought out my flat breakable plate, and I dished it into the plate.

I also took a photo of it, before I ate it with my brother. It was so delicious, and my brother complimented me on that.

I'm looking forward to sharing other local dishes in my home state, Akwa Ibom State, in Nigeria.

Thank you for stopping by.
I remain your favorite girl @joyben.
