Flying Solo - Acceptance

Why all these photos of Mr. Poe when speaking about flying solo?
The old house started emptying when the kids flew the nest, followed by Mom, moving on to her forever home.

It was just the three of us left: my darling hubby and Mr. Poe.
When hubby passed on unexpectedly, I stayed on another two years and surpassed my goal of fifty years before selling up.

Estate living is proving to be very laidback, filled with tons of benefits, and I'm finally taking my health seriously. I've joined an aqua aerobics class and started using the treadmill and the cycle machine. I lost quite a few kilos while I was sick because any snacks, sweet biscuits, and creamy desserts made me cough, so some of my clothes, especially trousers, are falling off! I don't mind losing some weight, but I will have to adjust some of my clothes or go clothing shopping. Which gal does not like that!

My friends know the story of when I sold my home. I had to find a home for Poe, and by a miracle, a young couple adopted him. They dote on him, and I get regular updates.
Poe is thriving in his new home and has now become a very long, fat cat. He's still a real character, swinging from being loving to being aloof and getting up to mischief! They live on a small farm in the middle of sugarcane, so Poe has been having fun catching small snakes and playing with them. What wasn't fun was when a two-metre-long Black Mamba came into their house, Poe realized this was not something he could handle, and stood deadstill when the large snake slithered right past him to go into a bedroom. His new Mom called her husband at work, and he and some of the workers managed to capture the snake.
I ordered the T-shirts above as a gift to Poe's parents, and added a few treats for them and for Poe as well. They all really deserve to be treated.

I'm finally cooking more often, although cooking for one makes me lazy. I was determined to make a stuffed chicken breast cooked in flaky pastry. Jamie Oliver makes it look so easy, but I always start cooking too late. I ended up turning two-minute noodles into a stir-fry with the chicken stuffing ingredients. When I do make the real thing, I will share it, hopefully, I will get to it before this new year ends:)

Easy, simple meals; I love corn on the cob, microwave-baked potato is super quick. One can get quite creative with fillings and turn a baked potato into a meal on its own, but I was lazy and used a nice creamy mayo, which worked well with the smoked flavours of the haddock. I was even too lazy to make a nice creamy mash! The meals they offer to residents are good, but I still prefer food from my kitchen to food cooked in the restaurant kitchen. Home-cooked still is best, and while I had endless energy before the big move and the nasty bronchitis, I will get back to real cooking and baking soon!

Hope you will be more energetic soon and become busy with cooking and baking, being occupied with some work often keeps our mind busy with positive vibes.

I'm starting to feel like getting busy again doing stuff I used to like doing in my 'old' life and new activities as well.
Thank you @sanjeevm!

Thank you so much @scrooger and @qurator 🤗

Looks like you are loving your new life and settling well Lizzie. Do they have many other activity classes for residents? Perhaps with your baking skills, you can start a cooking class as well? Or maybe hosting small group dinners, that will give you more incentive to cook nice meals again, and make more friends.

Enjoy your new life!

Thank you LUT, I'm very happy to be here, it's a totally different lifestyle that I'm really enjoying now that I'm more settled. There are many activities for all tastes but no cooking classes, but I like your idea of hosting small groups! Maybe start with a tea/ coffee and cake party😉

Hello dear Lizzie! I love to see that you are taking your health seriously and exercising. I don't remember us exchanging direct messages this year, so I hope you had a wonderful end of the year with your family and that this year brings you all good health, happiness, and prosperity.

It warms my heart to know that Poe is so loved by his adoptive parents. I love the t-shirt you ask to made for them. What a scare with the mamba snake, but it seems that Poe is a very clever cat, good boy.

Homemade food is definitely the best, and even if you feel lazy, it's better to eat something simple and homemade than to eat out.

Big hug, Lizzie. Take good care of yourself.

Last year brought a couple of scares as you know but maybe a good wakeup call to take care of my health. Something that's so easy to do here with all the activities they offer, I feel very blessed.
My youngest son and his girlfriend visited so it was lovely and thankfully I was well by New Year's Eve, a big relief for my son.
Take care of yourself Eli, hope this year brings good things your way!

A black mamba!!Isn't that one of the most poisonous snakes in the world?

I've said it before to you: you set an example to to all of us. Deal with reality no matter how hard and keep on. What is the alternative?

Food looks great :)

A black mamba bite is highly toxic; one doesn't have much time to get to a hospital. Poe's new parents live in an area where there are many snakes, and black mambas are common. I would definitely not want to stay there in the summertime!
As for life, one just has to go on and tackle each day as it comes, and be thankful for the small blessings that do come our way.
I hope you're having a good Sunday @agmoore <3

I can't imagine what it is like after so many years with the smae person and then they're gone. Been married over 30 years myself and can't imagine life without my lovely wife. My father-in-law is experiencing some of the same loneliness in a way since losing my mother-in-law. He stays busy doing wood work and odd jobs around his house. It is good that you are staying fit and busy with hte water aerobics and gym.

It is sad you had to give up Mr. Poe, but it sounds like you are able to stay intouch with him and his antics. He seems to be living the good life where he is and that should settle you some and make you feel at ease.

It's the absolute worse thing losing one's life partner! I can't be more happy with Poe's adoptive parents, he's a very happy and spoiled cat😻

🎉🎉🥳 Congratulations 🥳🎊🎊

I'm glad you're paying attention to your health, that's good for you. I know that Mr Poe loves his new home and I hope he's not missing you too much Haha. And, wow those dishes look delicious.

I think Mr Poe is getting so spoilt that he's forgotten all about me. I'm very happy 😉

Mr. Poe is so beautiful, and I'm sorry you had to give him up for adoption. The wonderful thing is that he ended up with a beautiful family who loves and cares for him. The couple will love this gift of T-shirts, a gift given with love and

Yes, it was a sad day, but when I met his new parents, I knew it was the right thing to do. They should receive the gifts this week, I know Poe will love his treats:)

Those shirts are adorable and made me laugh.

Cooking for one is a challenge. When I was still cooking a lot, I would cook a full meal as if 4 or so people were going to eat. Then I would eat a full meal and put the rest in the fridge and have leftovers for days. That is when I packed my lunches for work. I didn't eat the exact same thing each day, but would use at least part of the leftovers and maybe add in something new each day. It worked famously for a long time. I don't mind leftovers at all. If I liked it the first time, I like it later too.
