Giant Hill Rooster Bhuna with Traditional Naan Bread - A Delightful Family Feast

in Hive Food25 days ago

Assalamu Alaikum, dear Hive Food lovers.

Today I am sharing a very special meal that brought joy to my entire family. I prepared a delicious Hill Rooster Bhuna (Kosha Vuna) using a large home-raised rooster and served it with traditional naan bread,
a bread that has been enjoyed throughout Islamic history for centuries and is still very popular in countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, and many parts of South Asia.

Raw Hill Rooster Meat

The star of today's recipe was a large hill rooster from our home. After slaughtering the rooster, I carefully removed all the feathers and cleaned it thoroughly with water. Then I cut the meat into medium-sized pieces.

My younger son was very curious about the weight of the rooster, so we decided to weigh it together. The total weight of the rooster before processing was about 2.5 kg, and after cleaning and cutting, the meat alone weighed around 1.7 kg. For our family, this was truly a very large rooster.

Seeing such a big rooster made me even more excited to prepare a special meal for everyone.

Naan Dough Balls

While I was preparing the meat, my elder son helped by making the dough for the naan bread. We mixed flour, salt, and water to prepare a smooth dough and left it covered for about one hour.

After the dough had risen nicely, we divided it into several equal portions and shaped them into round dough balls as shown in the picture. Watching the dough become soft and fluffy always gives me satisfaction because it is the first step toward making delicious naan bread.

Traditional naan is slightly thicker and firmer than ordinary flatbread, which makes it perfect for enjoying with rich meat curries.

Next, I started preparing the bhuna. I heated oil in a pan and added sliced onions, chili, salt, turmeric, coriander powder, cumin powder, garlic paste, ginger paste, and several other spices.

The aroma of the spices quickly filled the kitchen. After frying everything well, I added the rooster meat and cooked it slowly. Since hill rooster meat is naturally firmer than commercial chicken, it requires more time to become tender.

After cooking for some time, I moved the pot to another stove and continued simmering it slowly until the meat absorbed all the spices and developed a rich, thick gravy.

The beautiful reddish color and rich texture made the dish look incredibly appetizing.

Finally, the naan bread was baked and served alongside the flavorful hill rooster bhuna. The combination looked absolutely wonderful.

The smell of the freshly cooked food spread throughout the house, and everyone became impatient to start eating. To be honest, I could not take many more photographs because my family was already waiting eagerly for dinner.
